John's Radio show last night

Wow! Now I know how to spark some action on this board. I did not hear the show. It was recapped by a friend who listened. I did not make up what I heard, I repeated it verbatim. I can not get the show in Shawnee, America. I apologize if it was incorrect HOWEVER I clearly stated that John was not accusing McCutcheon of faking an injury however he was not happy that on six occasions (This is the disputed number and I bow to the record shown by Jon_OSU so either my friend or John was incorrect) If McCutcheon got the loss and Boyd got the win then I have no problem with it and really six points is better for the team than the four Boyd would have gotten for what I think would be a major.IMHO. I wish and hope there is a transcript of the show but I do not know. There is no question that McCutcheon has a lingering knee injury and I also stated that. I would never make something up but since I hear did not hear the show I relied on someone I trust implicitly and he may have heard it wrong. If I can find out or can hear a transcript or recording of the show I will quote verbatim what John said. If John is wrong I am sure he will correct his statement. My only problem is that John said this would not count as a win for Boyd or a loss for McCutcheon and since McCutcheon was losing my problem was only with that. One more thing is that it may have shown up as a loss for McCutcheon and a win McCutcheon's ranking. According to what Jon_osu posted ther3e have been four matches two of which he medically forfeited and two in which he injury defaulted and four may be the correct number which I will admit is not six. I have talked again with said friend and he was fairly certain John said six but could not state with absolute certainty that John did not say "about six". One other thing he said was that John said it was "disappointing" but he may have said it in a manner that he meant more than that but he could not say for certain. A transcript of the show would sure clear this up. This is a wrestling board and opinions are expressed but I would never knowingly twist the facts. I have the utmost respect for Cael and the Penn State program and Matt McCutcheon.
Okay. Let me ask again. Does the Athletic Department release any transcripts or podcasts for their coaches radio shows?

As for me asked and answered-I do not know if a transcript is kept. I hope it is but I am doubtful. There are definitely podcasts of football and basketball because I have seen them. John's show is strictly a radio show and if there is a transcript or a recording I think it would be kept by the local radio station. Some one more knowledgeable than me will have to answer this but Nitt fan I do not believe anyone is evading your question.I understand your sense of outrage but the tone of some posts namely "make up a name" or whatever he calls himself disturbs me greatly. John never said or implied as far as I know that McCutcheon defaulted on purpose and I made that abundantly clear in my post. If it affects RPI and/or ranking then I can see where he would be upset.

I have been unable to find any on the athletic site. I think this is a real shame and needs to be changed. I am sure they record the audio of the show and it wouldn't take 20 minutes of work to post it on the site for all to hear. It seems like this would be a very small and inexpensive step that would help the program to reach fans outside of the Stillwater area.

What's really odd about all this is McCutcheon was winning this match prior to the injury. He was up 2-1 and in on the legs looking for another takedown when his knee got torqued by the illegal grab of the brace making it 3-1. I think it's pretty disingenuous for Smith or any OSU fan to act like he was looking for a way out to avoid a loss when it was pretty clear Boyd had his work cut out for him prior to a re-injury that he caused by an illegal move to defend against a second take down. In the end it sure seems like any disappointment from this match stems from the fact Boyd only got a paper win instead of the match continuing so he could pick up a cheap "real" win against an injured higher ranked opponent.

Whaaaat? Buddy, go watch the highlights of this match on Flo. MM got a re attack TD early on and then BOYD was in on a shot when the injury happened. Everything else you said in your post is based on this initial fallacy. In some circles that's called "fruit of the poisonous tree."

You don't even have to pay for it.

Pretty sure it was 4-3 Boyd at the time of default.

It was 2-1 MM when the initial injury occurred and 4-3 Boyd when MM defaulted. Boyd had initiated all of the action after the initial MM takedown, which is why most of us on here believe Boyd would have won that match. I'm sure a lot of that was due to MM not being 100% which begs the question.....if a wrestler has a nagging injury and is unable to maneuver through all positions safely during the course of a match, why in the world would you put him out there?

BTW....it was a very classy scene post match when the entire crowd booed a wrestler off the mat who by all accounts is one of the most humble and respectful guys on the team.

More delusional PSU fans!

Yankees and paranoid because they believe their image is so tarnished...cannot discuss anything with them.

you are not welcome here; go back to themat with the rest of the bs lion & hawkeye posters that like to stir up trouble.

MM Is now 0-3 vs Boyd is his career. I'm sure MM will make a recovery and wrestle in conference and national tournaments. Let's move on!
As the OP I am ready to move on. As far as the transcript goes it is good to remember that this was not a press conference. This is radio call in show. There is a big difference. I wish for purposes of clarification that one existed. One other thing, My very good friend who listened to the show is saddened by all this controversy and if you knew him you would know that he is a kind gentle spirit and if I in some way misinterpreted the things he said I am also saddened. Coach John Smith is a class act and if somehow I tarnished his image I sincerely apologize to him and to his fans. I agree with BigD that we need to move on.

It just irks the hell out of me when anyone...PSU fan or not....arrogantly posts patently false information. That shouldn't be tolerated in any civilized forum...virtual or actual.

I'm happy to move on as long as F-T doesn't come back with more make believe.

Nice usage of OP in your post obe. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks? :)

I just watched this match for the first time. To me it does not look like Boyd touches the brace, he gets his finger caught in the covering. I was recovering from ACL my senior year and was still in a brace that looks similar to his. I had to put a covering on it and I had to secure it with tape. I am surprised MM can compete with that loose of material. If his knee is tender enough that it hurt when Boyd finger gets caught in the outer material he should not be out there.

Just watched the Flo video. No way MM will make it through the tournament. I have way more experience here than I care to have. 12 years without an ACL, five surgeries on one knee (so far), and still competed/coached throughout those 12 years at some level.

MM may have the greatest character in the world. He might be the bravest, most courageous kid and I give him props for not quitting.

But wrestlers are (rightly) going to attack his legs and put him in an uncomfortable/painful position. It's not their job to not attack 100%, or give him a fighting chance. If I'm the opposing coach, I make my wrestler attack his good leg, forcing MM to stand/defend on his bad leg. And at some point, he's going to have to scramble and they'll get his bad leg and put pressure on it that's uncomfortable/painful.

I always cheer for Penn State except when they face us. I was disappointed in many of their fans that booed Boyd after the match. I never boo the wrestlers ,sometimes a ref or two. Yes Penn Staters I realize we have fans who do boo also. As a wrestler I would not want to be booed for competing so I do not boo.

You might re-think about your idea of a PSU fan? Iowa fans are at least respectful! PSU is very similar to oh you football when fans are concerned.
