Is there any way to salvage the 2024 season?

No. We lack talent on the field and in the coaching box. If we were smart enough to make adjustments, we already would have.
Not saying that you are wrong but how did we turn it around last year? Our talent and coaching were pretty much the same right?

We need to see some hope and promise to end the year and that isn’t going to happen with Bowman at QB.

Finish off a disappointing season even at 7-5 with a 7th year QB and we will be hit hard by the portal.

if one of the young QBs come in and shows some strong upside and wins a big game or two and we can fight off the portal much better and have some hole heading into 2025.
8-4 with a young QB finishing the season would be a pretty big W at this point. I'm not sure it's feasible.

Lolololol this team isn't sniffing 7-5. We're headed towards 3-9 or 4-8.

The chickens have come home to roost. We've seen the cracks in the foundation for years via tolerating incompetent coaches and especially subpar recruiting (stars do matter and anyone who tells you they don't is a f*cking moron) and the building is coming tumbling down this year. Next year will be even worse. Buckle up. Hope Gundy pulls a Houdini and makes me look like an idiot but I have a very tough time seeing it.

Agree with all your points sadly.. warning signs have been there for a few years now

We've been booty blasted by teams with similar recruiting pedigree. I doubt Iowa State is recruiting much higher caliber athletes than we do, yet somehow they are in the top 10, and we are embarrassing ourselves on a weekly basis. In this league coaching differentiates teams, and our coordinators and several position coaches are complete failures of a hire by Gundy. QB development/evaluation is a big difference maker too, and we've sucked at that.

That's a good point and I can't disagree with anything you wrote.

Spot on. We have dropped significantly in coaching talent compared to what Mike built this program on.

We just don’t see coaches getting poached by higher tiered programs very often and the pipeline to smaller HC positions is gone. There is nothing wrong trying to balance continuity with hired guns but you can’t go all in on continuity at a program like ours. Especially at the coordinator positions.

If we don’t make some fundamental changes in how we manage and hire our staff then this isn’t going to get better.

I think we could possibly win 2 more games. I can’t see us winning more than that. But I’ve been wrong before in similar situations involving Gundy oSu teams before.

The one thing I pray doesn’t happen is that we win 3 games to become bowl eligible. I’d prefer we miss a bowl unless we can win at least 5/6 of the remaining games.

Gundy will luck into something.

On the field, not much they can do. If Flores gets healthy enough to play, let him run the season out. Rangel will start the next game but I don't want him to have a few good series and give the coaching staff false hope that he's the answer because he's not. We've seen enough of him to know that. Play some younger players including offensive linemen. Not sure they will change things but they can't be worse and it will give them some snaps.

The biggest thing that could happen in the next few weeks is for Gundy to realize changes need to be made and be ready to make them as soon as the season is over. Dump Nardo and the 3-3-5. Find someone with a pulse who can replicate the 2021 defense. The key is to make the coaching moves quickly; not just firing coaches but getting their replacements in place as soon as possible. We already were going to hit the portal hard this offseason. It's easier to get players if you have a sense of direction.
Then give true freshman MSmith the reps in order to getting ready in a emergency.

Its Flores and Smith time. But since ZF not available, stick with Rangel in short term.
