Just wanted to leave a shout out for a buddy of mine who has an irrigation company in the Tulsa area, Christian Irrigation. Known him since high school, and he just installed mine and I'm IMPRESSED. Very good work, and his family has been doing this sort of thing for 2-3 generations. His name is Christian, hence the name of the company.

The system he installed was 7 zones, he uses a lot of heads per zone (my front yard has 10 lol, and it's your average sized front yard), very thorough, install was very clean and he does a great job of explaining everything.

The system uses a box that links to the local weather radar (for me it's the Tulsa Airport) and will deliver or not deliver based on rainfall and such. Downloaded the app (Hydrawise) and I have another fun little home automation tool to tinker with. Not sure if it works with the home automation units out there, but honestly it has a lot of bells and whistles itself that would negate that a bit. Love it.

Pricing would simply be relative to your size of yard. We had it installed front and back and also had a drain installed (have had a lot of standing water issues), I have 27 sprinkler heads in the system total, and the drain goes from the back of the house to the front and lets out into the street with tie ins to my guttering. All told, it was about 6 grand, the sprinkler system would have been about 4K by itself. He might be a little on the higher end of things, but all work is warrantied for 2 years parts and labor. Plus, he enjoys the work and you can tell by the quality (I watched them install most of this, his team doesn't cut corners).

I did search around a bit before going with him on this deal, but he's in good standing with the better business bureau, no complaints in 18 years, and him and I discussed some of the other companies out there...and there's some real jokers in this business it appears. I'll leave it at that lol.

Anyway, just thought I would throw that out there if anyone is looking for such a thing, if you are in the market for an irrigation system, seriously give Christian Darosa a call, website info linked above (I've always called him "Frenchie", he's proud of his French ancestry lol), he's a very good guy and would get you squared up fo sho.

And no, I'm not getting any breaks on "referrals", just happy with this system and bored this morning....

Do they do repair/maintenance on existing systems as well? I assume they do, but it never hurts to make sure.

Yes they do in fact, he was telling me about some systems they worked on previously. With him I know you would definitely get an honest answer. I will say his systems seem to favor redundancy in terms of sprinkler head coverage and water delivery, meaning he uses more sprinkler heads to make sure there's adequate coverage should there be significant wind and so forth. If he looks at your system, don't be alarmed if he says something like "well, you need more sprinkler heads", it's not him trying to dig more money out of folks, he's just trying to give people a good result. He may not even need to say that, but I just wanted anyone who uses him after I have sort of "endorsed" him to understand that he takes pride in what he does and won't even allow those of questionable character to work for him.

Anyway, give him a call, if they are on a job he might not personally get back to you until after 2 or so in the afternoon, but he handles all that himself in terms of face to face encounters with clients.

And one more thing...I RARELY endorse any company or contractor, I have high standards and have been less than pleased with quite a few things I have hired people to do lately. But with Christian I don't feel like I'm going out on a limb at all, he doesn't need me to do this either, but I was so impressed with this system that I figured I would get the word out.

And he does drain work as well (I know I mentioned that above, just clarifying), retaining walls, just about anything that is required for water management, however I can only speak for their work on drains and sprinklers at this time.

Are you on a well or city water? How many GPM do you have?

I say this because you can have 10 rotors in a from yard and a typical nozzle is 3 gpm. A 1.5 hp well will only make around 22-25 gpm. City water with a standard 5/8 makes less.

What method did he use to calculate the flow?

i put my own in ten years ago. after the first zone you get the hang of.it. use good pipe and rainbird stuff and your golden. i know prices are higher but I spent 1500 and a week of vacation in the project. now though every guy in the neighborhood knows i can fix one when it breaks.

It's city water, didn't ask him about flow calculations. All I know is the way he installed it gets the water where it's needed, and I don't have to do anything but sit in the house and twiddle my thumbs lol. And I could have done it myself, but I don't have the time to dedicate to a project like that nowadays.

yes, I wouldn't do it now either. glad he did you a good job.

now I realize the more you water the more you mow.

Which was my argument against getting the damn thing, but my wife wanted something for the house to play with, and I have spoiled myself lately with gun purchases so I figured this would be a win-win sort of deal...so yeah, I bought it for my wife, she is the one that does all the watering. Unfortunately, I don't like people mowing my yard, so I'm stuck with that job *facepalm*
