Granddaughter from adopted white daughter is scheduled to depart for Kenya May 7 for her 10 day visit. Just another thing I have to worry about. She and classmates are supposed to have a pretty good security detail.

Granddaughter and pals have been instructed to bring along $250 for spending money. I gave her $300 of the world's first decimal/metric currency (US dollars). I wish she were staying just 5 days.

Kenya has Burger Kings, KFCs but no McDonalds.

SB, you did not solicit advice so please don't be offended. Could I suggest that your granddaughter separate her money into 3-separate bundles and carry them in different places. One other tip I utilized for 30-years traveling is to get an expired credit card & wrap 5-6 $1 with an $20 on the outside and put a rubber band around the whole thing.

The rubber band makes it harder to get pick-pocketed If, God forbid, she has an incident, suggest that she take out the fake wad, show it to the bad guy/girl and simply drop it at their feet. As soon as they look/bend down, hit the gas and scream to high heaven.

It is also best to not include valuables in checked luggage & to hold them in sight at X-ray/body scanner actions going to the gate.

Hope they have a great trip.
