If California secedes there is going to be a civil war on their doorstep

No way that movie could be made now with the PC nature of Hollywood. Another thing I'm looking forward to with Trump.

Speaking of movies that can't be made now, just watch any random John Hughes teen comedy from the 80's and imagine the shit storm it would get today.

I just watched 16 candles with the family the other night and realized how by todays's standards it is incredibly racist (sorry @long-duc-dong ), sexist, homophobic, date-rapey and non diversely cast.

SJW's would shit their pants if most 80's movies were released in their original form - thus, you get shit remakes like Ghostbusters.

Watched El Dorado last night and they cut out the scene where Caan dresses as the Chinese guy to sneak up on the guard by the door to the saloon.

Parallel thought: Should California have the right/ability to secede? This came up regarding Texas following the Obama election and it was laughed off mostly. There are legal statutes (too lazy to look it all back up) that prevent seccession, but in theory, shouldn't there be a path (albeit difficult) in which a state could choose to leave the union?

@ThorOdinson13 has posted about this.

Seems to me that secession is constitutional federally. Now a state's constitution may forbid the state or have no provision. But according to the 10th amendment since the federal constitution is silent, that power is reserved for the states or people. The rest is just logistics and negotiating their 'buy out'. Very similar to the BREXIT vote.

Hell yes California should be able to leave. That said for the most part it is the whinny gigantic liberal run cities that are wanting out (see county map from last election). The only thing I would like to see happen previous to their exit stage left, is the other states offer each illegal law breaker $5,000 USD (max $25,000 per family) and a plane ticket to one of the sanctuary cities in the state leaving. With the promise of chain gang time on the working end of a sling blade if they ever are caught back in the state. Kind of a reverse rodent in chief move to unload on the states that want to leave cuz their lil feelings are hurt by Trumps election.

If you have a high enough level of interest read "Is Davis a Traitor: Or was secession a Constitutional Right previous to the war" by Albert Taylor Bledsoe (attorney for Davis). It's never been refuted. Just one of those things nationalist ignored and hoped would just fall into the dustbin of time unnoticed.

If Cali tried to leave, (and they won't) it would mean war. The precedent has been set 150 years ago. Presidents take an oath to preserve the Union.

There would never be a war if that state left! No chance, no way and no how....incredibly dumb assertion and trying to relate the relativity of them leaving now to the civil war is silly.

I subscribe that most people in the middle of the country wished them and NY would unass the USA. Just make sure once they completely implode anyone moving out is vetted to not pollute the mindset of the next state they crawl to.

Just because Lincoln set a new precedent does no require that precedent be followed. Lincoln should have followed the precedent set by Jefferson in his inaugural address when the northern states planned to secede upon his election. Jefferson wished them well and said we are all brothers, republicans & federalist.

"We have called by different names brethren of the same principle. We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists. If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it."

~ Th. Jefferson

California would be so easy to invade. Just tell them a poison was released that threatened a species of minnow and that Trump was coming to speak at local colleges and it would keep them occupied for a good while. Then roll in and declare victory. It isn't like they have the will or guns to defend themselves anyhow.

Do you understand the massive military and economic assets that would be co-opted by California secessionists? No President would just lie down and take that. It would mean war, and everyone knows that, which is why it would never happen.

This makes me laugh, since NY and Cali provide the vast majority of the Federal budget. Better be prepared for a MASSIVE tax increase if they left.

This makes me laugh because the left will not allow California to secede. They need the 55 electoral votes in presidential elections. California leaves and the democrat party might not get another president for a long time.

Uh, given the current cluster-fook status of the Dems, with no cankled/otherwise savior in sight, those votes are worth less than a roll of Northern!

You have to understand how disgusted people are in California by Oklahoma as well. Many Californians are ex-Oklahoma going back to the Dust Bowl. They have Oklahoma ties and Oklahoma family but are utterly repulsed by the politics.

Oklahoma Education is abysmal and teacher pay is last in the nation. Yet the good residents of this sorry state could not be bothered by paying a penny sales tax to at least put a band aid on teacher pay and restore funding to OU and OSU.

Good luck. The loss of the NYSE alone would cause massive economic loss for the lower 48th.

As a proud member of the Sons of Union Veterans, it is clear we have work to do.

I love that we have 4 people now on record for the right to secede. Interesting.
