This is devastating to Iowa. I’m not a huge fan of the hawks, but I don’t like to see this. Most likely it is either us or PSU and Flo feels it will be the Penn state. I’m not sure, but I can’t see their team being any better with Bo on their roster. He is being recruited so other teams can’t have him. 👎🏻
Or he thinks he needs development and the track record at Penn st has been proven for awhile now and he thinks that's where he can be his best. He would've plenty of training partners and the best RTC
I hope it’s this reason and not some weird deal that is getting screwed with on compliance or resulting from this recent ruling.
I believe this has had something to do with it either way and if Iowa wants to fix it, they need to beef up the RTC situation. I don’t want them to win, but it’s bad for the sport if one of the Titans can’t succeed.
according to Willie it stemmed from a disagreement between the Brands and the Bassetts over Bo and Melvin wanting to train at the RTC. Basch and Willie both think Bo will end up at PSU now
Pyles just said Bo's top 3 are PSU, OK ST, and Nebraska. Pyles thinks it will be PSU (same as Willie and Basch)
Honestly, I think it's PSU as well. I also think that Bo is not packaged with Melvin like previously thought in this situation. Is it most likely, probably, but no longer 100%.
It seems that there is a little more to it than just that. Bo and Melvin have been to other RTCs and have an expectation on what that regimen should look like. I think suggestions along those lines from the Bassett camp were not received well by Brands, thus his supposed comment about it being his way or the highway.
I think the new NIL landscape prevents package deals. They could still go to the same school but each deal is separate in space and time.
that is what I always said. I didn't think Melvin fit well with Iowa and thought he would go elsewhere. Well, I was right on the second part, but now that Bo opened up his recruitment at the same time Melvin is doing his, I think it's more likely they'll go somewhere together. Sounds like PSU has a strong lead in the race for Bo, but they are pretty stacked at Melvin's projected weights with Duke, James, Cunningham, Henckel, and Sealey
I am ok with PSU getting Bo and us getting Melvin. Win-win for both.
With the haul you guys have made in the last year, us second tier programs need a little love too.
I am high enough on Melvin that wherever he ends up, he will be in the lineup as a four year starter at any school.
I know we haven’t caught you’ll yet, closed the gap some for sure. Penn state is still top dawg. I know you’ll somewhat disagree as a penn state fan but it’s better for the sport that there is some parity. Penn state winning it every year is boring and tiresome. It’s crazy the battle for 2nd was the story of this years title run for yall. What Oklahoma state and Nebraska did was exciting. The sport needs some serious contenders to make Sunday viewership extend
I hate this argument, but it is right. I didn't like the argument in the early 2000's when it was us, but we weren't a full on guarantee at this current level of PSU.
But, it is true! Right now is the most important time for Wrestling to gain some popularity/fans/money and the dominance is hurting the sport. Schools are going to have to cut some fat with this new climate and I bet Wrestling is on the chopping block in many meetings going on currently. I don't know the answer to it, Cael hasn't returned my calls asking for him to dial it down a couple notches.
Cael recently changed his number due to some stalker calling him all the time. I guess you just got unlikely that you were calling around the same time period.
Luck had nothing to do with it. I ordered 250 pizzas for delivery to his address and put up a craigslist add for unwanted pet dropoff at the same time.

Your post reminds me that I get texts 4-5 times a week around midnight or so from Taco Bell thanking me for my order. It's actually to the previous owner of my phone number, a woman named Sarah. I can't imagine what it would be like sleeping next to a woman who eats Taco Bell at midnight 4-5 times a week.

In the current climate, if you can strengthen your product, you should. I don’t know how the changes make much of an effect on it, but I’d be sending the same message.
That's something that's going to be said in private.
Everything is on the table. Spidey sense say they go to the same place. But it is possible they go to different places. Really comes down to Melvin - simply because Bo will choose first.
To a degree I think Iowa is going through what OSU had but with leaders nowhere near the caliber of men as Coach Smith. Its clear that OTC's were not something that Coach Smith ever truly got behind, not that he worked against it just that it didn't really fit his style. Very much an old school coach and came from an era of "if you want it, just work harder" There's nothing wrong with that approach but with today's modern athlete I don't see it is as a recipe for broad success. Although it wasn't his thing I think Coach Smith saw the writing on the wall and decided to do what's best for the program. As far as I'm concerned he will always be Cowboy #1 in my books.

When recruits go to PSU and now OSU they see a different approach and attention to detail that likely isn't seen at many of the other top OTC's. I think Bo and his family were asking the Brands and Iowa to adapt and change; however some leopards just can't change their spots.
My guess is Bo goes to PSU and Miller follows. I kind of wish he would go to Nebraska because I really want to see more parity in college wrestling. Yes it's fun for us to pick up top kids, just like it is for PSU, but if college wrestling simply becomes two programs and a bunch of others whose best hope is to simply get on the podium I think college wrestling dies.

Super Kudos to John for pushing to get DT over one of his own. When John used to say "no one is bigger than the program" - he meant it and showed it. I love that man.
I agree that we need more parity. But 2 programs is better than 1, which is what we've had for a long time now.
