HS Recruiting News

Ramirez won 2 more in consolation so he will wrestle for 3rd. He won 11 to 1 and 4 to 2, the 4 to 2 match he almost lost with 1 pt. given to his opponent for stalling and his opponent got in with a good shot with a few seconds left but couldn't finish in time. Not real impressive.
Gus Smith soph. won Arkansas State 157 Championship with a 1st period pin. He was dominating and then pancaked his opponent for the pin.

Ignacio won the State title at 113 winning 12 to 2 over Rojas. Rojas started the 2nd period on top and came out front with a cement mixer and Villasenor twisted just enough to not go to his back and fought to come out back for the reversal. Very close to getting pinned but Villasenor made the right moves and gave up 0 points. That slowed him down some being so close to disaster but still won easily. Rojas picked top in the 3rd and tried to get out front, but Ignasio learned and stood up and twisted the opposite side and got an easy escape. Fun match.

Wolbert a junior won Wisconsin state tournament at 144 with a 4 to 2 decision. His takedown came in the 1st 20 seconds of the match where he got behind his opponent standing up and knocked his opponent off balance enough for 1 hand to hit the mat before his opponent broke away. Kellen was the aggressor but his only point after was an escape. They were in neutral for about 4 minutes with neither wrestler scoring after the 1st takedown. Tough, grind it out win.

Ramirez takes 3rd at 126 in California. Broke his opponent in the 3rd period where he got 3 takedowns and 4 back points. Good comeback from a big mistake.

Hickman won by tech. Mismatch. Good win by Adams winning 11 to 4 against Deutschlander. He got 3 nice takedowns and a reversal for the win. At team state Adams won 2 to 1. He is getting better and better and is only a freshman. Adams only loss was to James who is number 3 at 150 although he got teched but was only back to wrestling for a couple of weeks because of football.

Guerrero won 4 to 1 over defending State Champ Jeter. Great win for Guerrero who finally got the takedown in the 2nd period. He had been close several times to a takedown but Jeter defended. Jeter had Guerrero leg up high but Guerrero defended and gave up nothing. The score was 4 to 1. Guerrero had a little attitude after the win, but he had lost several big matches to Jeter before including getting pinned at dual state and losing State last year to him.

That's gotta feel amazing beating the guy who's had your number! Great win. I imagine that head-to-head win for Stillwater over Edmond North will help out a lot in the the team race as well

Dee wins with a 2nd period pin with an assassin, and he was ahead 14 to 2 before that. Not surprising another dominating win. His 4th Oklahoma State Championship

Stillwater had won the championship way before this match. EN had 7 in the finals and Stillwater had 9 with a 25ish point lead. I believe the 2 schools matched up in 4 matches and Guerrero's win made 2-2.

Just remembered to watch Rocklin Zinkin in the finals which was the same as last at 113 Zinkin versus Sierra. Zinkin won easily 7 to 2 with a takedown in 5 seconds and in the 2nd period he got a 3 point near fall. The 7th point was an escape. Easy, solid win and got his 2nd California State Championship with 1 year still to go.

My last post tonight will be Landon Robideau won State at 160 by tech fall in the 1st period and his freshman brother Lincoln won State with a 4 to 1 decision in overtime. Landon won 4 State Titles and was a runnerup as a 8th grader. This year he was 45-0, last year he was 54-0, as a sophomore he was 49-0 and as a freshman he was 46-1 and as an 8th grader he was 38-2. He also took 2nd in the State as a 7th grader with a 48-3 record. It would not surprise me if he had the all time number of wins in Minnesota high school wrestling.

Great work this weekend Harley! Thanks so much because I didn’t have time to follow all this action.

A couple of details I noticed….Ramirez had to beat the 2, 4, and 7 seeds (not in that order) in consolation to take 3rd. Solid consolation to a really tough loss.

The kid Lincoln Robideau beat was a junior with 2 state titles already under his belt and had only lost a handful of matches the last 2+ years. On paper, he seemed to be a big underdog but got it done.

By and large, nearly all the recruits dominated their way to state titles over the last two weekends. Great win for Guerrero! He and Zinkin (thanks to dominating a tough bracket) should really climb in their respective updated rankings.

Did these tournaments put anyone on the recruiting list for these D1 schools to go after? Not sure I knew Robideau had a little brother that looks to be up and coming. For those that are still uncommitted for Class of 26, did any of their stock go up or down? Anyone on DT's list to go after still?

Don’t think his stock goes anywhere but Jake Miller out of BA grabbed a title. Would be a good room guy for us. Could probably work towards a spot though at several smaller schools. Type of talent UALR needs to get really, but according to wrestlestat they have 4 redshirt freshman at 141.

The top two would be the Raney's. I don't know how they would fit into the lineup with the guys we already have committed, but they're both great wrestlers. Iowa and Penn st are after them too so it would be nice to get them.

I would have hated to be Dee's opponent last night. Everyone knew that he was going for four state championships and Dee was going to pin his way through the bracket.

Not class of 2026 but class of 2027 Rudy Rojas from BA who Ignacio beat claimed his second runner up. Not sure how 125 will look for him in 3 years but kid definitely has talent. Unfortunate for him that Villasenor moved into state I guess.

I got word that Kellen was sick as a dog and was running a high fever in the state final. Did what he had to do to bring it home.

Yes, you are right about Beissel being good. His older brother is at University of Minnesota at 125 and he was a 2 time State Champ also. It says really good stuff about Lincoln Robideau. I have said this before but recruiting a blue chip kid is really good but recruiting a blue chip kid who has really good younger brothers wrestling is even better. I really look forward to seeing Dee, Landon, Sergio and Kody next year. We need them to be really good because many of our great recruiting classes in the past have been disappointing. We could use a change in luck but more important have great development. Jaeden Adams ( Dee's brother) showed some good stuff as a freshman.
