HS Recruiting News

Coby Merrill is 3-0 with 3 pins under a minute at Doc B, including a 15 second pin over the 8 seed. I know it’s been mentioned that he’s unlikely to follow his brother here, which is a shame because he’s growing into a heavyweight hammer.
Yeah, I've been watching him also, total domination. He's going to be a good one, unfortunately I don't think we're on his list of schools, hope I'm wrong though.

What is the reason they’re unlikely to wrestle at the same school? Because they’re likely the same weight or is there some kinda familial beef?

Coby Merrill with afall at Heavyweight in the first period and is in the finals.
Oberebo, he does look very good with a takedown quick and a pin soon after in each of his matches. He seems to hold his weight better than Cody did. Maybe he is an inch or 2 taller than Cody and could have a thicker frame. He will wrestle the 19th rated HWT in the finals. It will be interesting if he dominates this kid also. He looks like he can be a real HWT and Cody is a 197.

Merrill won by pin in the 1st period over the 19th ranked HWT in the Country. I would really like to see Merrill against Mocco. He may end up wrestling Number 1 Sahakian at the end of the season at State. Merrill seems very strong and very fast.
He's an animal, he's already built like a full grown man and moves very quick for his size. Hope we have a shot at him, he's going to be special.

Vega was behind 3 to 2 in the 3rd period they were in the 3rd period his opponent shoots and makes a big mistake by keeping his knee close to his head and Vega gets the cradle for the takedown and pin. I think Vega won each of his matches by pin with the cradle. Vega is tall with a long reach ( made to cradle).

Rocklin got beat 5 to 3 and he got the 1st takedown against the 4th rated 123 in the Country. He gave up a takedown at the end of the 1st period to lose the lead. He didn't take bottom because the other kid from Pennsylvania is good on top. Close match.

The Ramirez kid is a stud. Beat a bigger wrestler (#2 ranked 132) and was just way to slick and technical for him. Great low singles and pass bys.

Kept attacking all match. 13-4 final.

Ramirez wins 13 to 4 over the 11th rated wrestler. Ronnie put on a takedown performance.

That kid that Rocklin almost beat is a freaking super stud

On the last 2027 big board Willie had Bachmann ranked #2 p4p behind Melvin Miller and in his most recent individual ranking update he had Sidun ranked #1 at 120lb ahead of Bachmann

Commit Rocklin Zinkin class of 2026 projected 133 as of now. He lost to Landon Sidun 5-3 in finals tonight. Sidun was ranked 17th on Willie’s last 2027 board.
As I mentioned though if you go off his most recent update (passing the #2 p4p kid in the individual 120lb ranking)… Sidun will more than likely be much much higher than 17.

Thought the announcers said 6'2", but I'd have to listen again to make sure
He could be 6 foot tall but I would be surprised if he was 6:2 from watching his matches in the last 2 days. I believe he is a great prospect. Many of his pins he does a 2 on 1 arm bar, he slides his right arm up high and deep on the arm barred. His left arm goes to the head area and then muscles and pressures his opponent to their back for the pin. He has such strength and weight on his opponent's upper back and neck they can not move when he does the 2 arms on 1 to bar the arm to his opponents back. If my memory is correct, he pinned all his opponents in the first period ( he didn't even have to wear his opponent down).

He’s build like a refrigerator with definition.

I agree he looks more like he's about 6 foot tall to me

No clue what the reason is, I’m pretty sure Willie said something to that effect during Cody’s recruitment and I’ve heard it echoed elsewhere on this forum.
The brothers went to different high schools and I remember when both brothers were at 215 Coby indicated by someone's report that he would not back away from wrestling his older brother. This is a vague memory, but the overall message was the brothers maybe weren't real, close.

Kinda weird seeing a pair of highly ranked brothers who don’t want to go to the same school.

The Blaze brothers! Nothing wrong with it at all. They both transferred to GIlroy from their home high school. JW North? That is a hike between the two schools! Coby transferred back and Cody stayed. Cody's senior year he wrestled up at HWT and Coby wrestled at 215. Just sounds like Coby likes being closer to home is all. The kid will do good wherever he ends up at.

My observation is lots of wrestler's mess with that arm bar, an example Dustin Plott when he is on top bars that arm a lot but very few are able to more than get riding time from its use. The speed and perfection which he places his arms to turn are very unusual and his ability to use to 2 arms on 1 and keep his opponent controlled is unusual. Now can he do that with a top 5 HWT has yet to be answered?

Anyone know Coby's top 5 schools? If he wants to stay close to home only decent programs out west are Ore St and ASU. Otherwise OSU is about the best closest option.

Class of 2026 commits are increasing! Waiting to see some names in the next few weeks committing to OK State! Biggest names out there............ For selfish reasons (not wanting to wait that long) I hope they do not wait as long as Blaze did to commit! haha

Jax
Bo
Raney's
Ross
Waters
Mocco
Merrill

That list on Flo needs updated. It's from September I think?

No damn way Coby Merrill is 6'2. He's a freaking horse though. I'm betting DT is going after Ross. The kid is crazy athletic.

Ramirez is really slick and could be a contender for the 133 spot next year.
