I think that our 24/7 board compares pretty well to most of the others that I have been involved with.

Anybody else think the same?

Personally I like ours being so few participants as you can get a true dialogue going on instead of just smartass remarks being thrown out continuously.

But I haven't really bothered with any big boards like Reddit or something similar

Pretty well.

We are all reasonably educated, reasonably well intentioned, and all have a common bond that keeps us here (with a few welcome outsiders). So we're able to establish rapport, some identity of personality, and longevity of contribution.... so flamethrowing is kept largely in check.

This. I used to engage in another poli-arguing board on a different OSU board. You guys are smarter, more well intentioned towards each other and to having an actual dialogue. That board has become a crapshow of exclusively nothing but link posting and insult exchanges. It is a dumpster fire.

I'm really curious how different the peeps on this board are in terms of backstories, which does impact your view of the world.

If I had to guess, 75% of the regular posters fall under more than half of the following 10 demographic groups:

white
male
at least 2 years of college
married at some point (most likely still married)
2 to 4 kids
decent and consistent employment
no time in jail
believes in a creator and purposeful design
35 to 55 years old
Lived > 1/2 Life in the Great State of Oklahoma
