Have any of you caught the new Wiki leaks dump?

I know I am in the minority by a long way, its probably because I worked for the Government for over 20 years and have had access to very highly classified material, but, I am more upset at Wikileaks than I am the CIA. We will never know if this stuff is legit or not, but there are reason we have secrets and need to protect them........

Thank God you are in the minority here. Wow.

You can't give up freedoms for fears that is just a way the government controls you. This IMO is why Obama started the free phone program. They want as many smart phones out there as possible. I read a book about this I think it was called 1984.

I guess its better if the CIA does NOT have these abilities to spy on our enemies? Now we want to neuter our intelligence agencies. Russia wins again.

Have these leaks produced evidence that the CIA is using this technology against Americans?

I knew I would get bashed some, and I understand your concerns, but I really feel people like myself who have had the security clearance to handle this level of classified material would feel the same way I do. There are reasons we have stuff like this and there is a time and a place it may have to be used, there are a lot of things we possess that would really make your head spin, hopefully never to be used, but if it's needed it's nice to have

This from an admitted statist.

Okay. But you'd rather the CIA NOT have the capability? I can't understand why so many Americans don't want the CIA to be the best intelligence gathering and spies around. I think that wingnut hysteria and talking points have convinced people that we should dumb down our national defense and intel capabilities.

Having capability and using it to spy on inocent citizens without probable cause or a warrant are two completely different discussions.

There is a general rule to government acquisition, as far as the military or spy networks...... if you can answer yes to these two questions then you can bet we have a weapon system or a capability. The two questions are: is there an application for it? Do we have the capability/ technology to build it?

I have held clearance and I feel the opposite of you. I understand your stance on it. I also know that much of what is classified is not needed to be anymore. There are times that the public would benefit from understanding what is actually happening and how. I believe the US would be better served if more accurate information were available. These things go in waves and the Intel community is no different. It is probably time to declassify some stuff and move the other way. It is how the cycle has worked.

I sorta agree, at least when it comes to foreign nationals intelligence gathering....not so much when it comes to its use against American citizens. As you said....appropriate time and place...I would add "purpose" to that caveat myself.

Interesting that the same guys who have a problem with investigative journalists and whistle blowers and think we should trust government & conflate lack of same with not wanting the CIA to be the best foreign intelligence gathering agency in the world....

....tend to support gun control.

So the CIA has a Meme Warfare Center. Anyone still doubting "meme magic"? I know it's been brought up in the past but I don't feel like searching it out.

Totally understand your way of thinking, but from my perspective it's much different, highly sensitive stuff needs to stay protected, the government needs it to so it can protect its citizens

No shit Sherlock! Our gov't. is doing such a great job of protecting highly sensitive stuff. And as to protecting its citizens, I'm sure none of it has ever been directed against anyone -- oh wait, James Rosen -- but thanks for playing your usual tripe card.
