I just don't see it as being as significant anymore. When you start hyping players in June/July as Heisman candidates, and they start putting guys in and out weekly it seems like a popularity contest than a true "best player" award. Add to that the fact that defensive players aren't universally considered for the award makes it insignificant to me.
