Things to work on during bye week?
We need to improve on running game, downfield coverage, and try to get our guys rest.
Have you noticed any differences in the team playing on the road and at home?
Not really. We've played about the same. Maybe we have played a little better offensively at home.
What made Zach Sinor so effective?
He did a great job controlling his punts. He played really well. He has great work habits.
Mason threw 3 INTs. What do you grade his performance?
One was not on him. One was trying to fit into a tight window. The other was a bad throw. He has to improve.
Update on Kevin Peterson.
I thought it was groin, but it was more of an ankle. It's not an injury that will keep him out of games. He will practice later this week.
How much better do running QBs make a team?
No question it helps the team. The downfall is..how many hits can they take? Sometimes we feel we have to take the risk to run the ball and score points.
What has been the key for you in these close games?
We have a fairly mature team on defense. They don't panic. The defensive coaches keep them calm by remaining confident.
What was different in OT?
We came with a different scheme in OT because WV was stuffing us. Once we got to a 4th and less than 2, a field goal was never an option. West Virginia had all the momentum.
How much have the struggles prompted you to go to JW more?
We obviously need to improve running the ball. JW is the option we have gone to. We are very fortunate to have him.
You guys are using 2 QBs more than anyone in the league. How do you balance that?
It hasn't been an issue to this point. I've never been a fan of 2 QBs, but I think there is a need for 2 with this team. We are trying to do the best we can (to keep continuity).
Did you have confident in JW to pick up the fourth down? Did the team have confidence in him?
I just didn't think we could take the chance in kicking a field goal. It's hard to win on the road kicking field goals.
