For as much agnnst and negative feelings that came out of the PSU dual the opposite in terms of excitement and positive feelings should be coming out of all OSU fans from this weekend.

Nothing will be easy and everything will be earned but OSU will be right in the hunt for number 35.

Pic has been coming on strong and looked great this weekend capped by upseting the #4 ranked kid.

Brock has shown he has bonus potential all the way up until the quarter which will be key. He has a great chance to find himself in the semis but will need to find an answer for Gross who is a bad matchup for him. Kaid was the more aggressive and more offensive wrestler but his weakness on top and bottom really hurts him.

Heil showed some bonus potential which is great going into the NCAA's.

Collica did nothing to show he won't push to get another crack at Zain in the finals.

As AT said in another post I don't want to get to excited by Smith looked night and day in every aspect from his recent form. Quick, aggressive and offensive. Major boost to this teams title hopes if this holds true.

Rogers is a wildcard but will score some bonus points and needs to find himself in the AA race. Should have won today (can't believe they didn't give him 2 on either contested shot). If not for the penalty point he would have won in OT.

Crurch rounding into form and showing some consistency.

Boyd will score bonus and make a push for the semis.

Massive weekend for Weigel avenging two losses and handily beating to higher ranked guys.

Schafer being back and healthy is massive for us. He looked great as well.

I agree with everything you said, but Weigel didn't wrestle in the WVU dual. I believe White lost to Smith in the dual.

Great weekend for Preston defeating two higher ranked wrestlers.

Couldn't agree more.

Another note. This team is a blast to watch and this has been a fun ride. I know everyone gets stressed about the drought and what PSU is doing but hopefully everyone has enjoyed this season. We've never had a team like this is my lifetime (one where we have 10 potential AAs). This is a fun team.

I agree with almost everything said, except Collica.

A lackluster performance in the finals against a 17-13 kid he's dominated in the past. He looked real tired at the end, and inexplicably out of character stalled a lot of that last period.

He was very good up until that point. He may have been dealing with something as he did look tired and lacked his normal movement and aggressiveness.

I also don't want to be to dismissive of DJ's performance at this tournament. The kid has a bunch of natural ability and wrestled a great tournament. He was confident and wrestled with nothing to lose in that finals match.

Did anyone else notice Henson's punk move taunting Smith after Chandler's loss to his wrestler. Smith just walked a couple of steps toward him and it looked like he said, "What the hell was that". Henson is a total ass.

To be honest, the finals were a little anticlimactic for me. I was disappointed most of wrestling between Pic and Boyd. Obviously, Kaid wrestled well and lost to a good wrestler who seems a little too big for him to match up to. Dean wrestled a good first period but not much after that, Anthony also wrestled a good first period but after he was put on his back, he shut down. Joe complete dominated in the first where his opponent looked like a wet noodle just lying there waiting to be put through the ringer. Why would Joe choose down when he was up by six against a wrestler that he had almost pinned twice, crazy. He was never close to scoring again. Chandler was Chandler. He showed how he has matured when he dropped of the pinning hold that wasn't there and go for a take down. That has been a big problem for him (and Jordan) in the past. He was just caught in an ill-advised scramble again. Cutch was solid as usual against a good OU wrestler but made a couple of silly moves that came close to costing him the match. Boyd look great against a wrestler who seemed to match up with his size but that turned out not to be the case. Preston was pushing the action throughout and was awarded the fall before they noticed the injury (I heard the crack from row R) so I don't know why it was scored as INJDEF. Austin also looked great as well.

I thought Dean was fantastic. Meredith is a returning finalists and a tough guy to wrestle. Collica was a tad disappointing but I also think he was just being smart. Davon can get you in trouble if you mess around too much. After what we've seen from Smith over the past couple of months I couldn't be anything but thrilled with how he looked in the finals. Crutch was Crutch. It wasn't an amazing performance but definitely nothing to be discouraged about.

Yeah Henson did act like a child pointing and yelling at John. It would have been different had his wrestler won in dominating fashion but not from a for sure missed takedown in which the ref is counting out back points.

well when you are Sammy Henson you are thrilled with any win over OSU. But as the coach you shouldn't act like its first and last time it will ever happen. But what goes around comes around. He will have one less wrestler to cheer for at the nationals. Id rather have the Weigel win than the Rogers win. Im not worried about Rogers. No matter his seed he will find a way to win and win big.

The takedown was not in time. That guy running out on the mat was just not assertive enough. When they showed the replay on the screen he raised his hands way before the two was awarded, but just did not get aggressive enough to let the ref know that time was out.
The losses we had require a little mat strategy as well as how Heil can keep Merideth from reversing him. Chris Perry seems to be our mat strategy coach and I am excited about Nationals. No question there will be a three team race and we are one of those teams.

Have you heard anything definitive on the Jacob Smith injury? I heard a loud pop just as Weigel drove through. Hope it isn't what I thought then.

Smith received medical attention on the mat, and trainers and coaches had to carry him into a tunnel in the arena when Smith couldn’t put any weight on his right side.

Smith was then taken for immediate X-rays, neither Smith nor WVU head coach Sammie Henson were available to comment on the match.

John was yelling at Sammy from basically near the end of the match, as he was walking past Sammy, and until he was well past him. And, to me, it looked like Sammy flipped him the bird after John stopped to yell at him after he was already past him. I don't think either coach is on the side of the angels on this one.

I saw an EMSA crew walking a stretcher back to where Smith was. I'm wondering if they transported him to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Sammie is a friend of mine but he has always been a poor winner. Not a poor loser, he can act proper after a close loss. Instead of congratulating his wrestler after a win he often starts mocking the other bench which he did in Chandlers bout. Definitely pissed John off as it would anyone.

This was the best we wrestled all year. Winning 20 out of 20 matches it is hard to be more consistent and lots of bonus points. However some of those guys we whipped won't be wrestling in St. Louis. We will need to go up 1 more notch. The finals I had mixed feelings about. Piccinini has improved some but needs to improve little bit more in the next 2 weeks. I liked Piccinini's wrestling this weekend. Kaid is very good but I have seen this all year he wrestles way better the first 4 minutes of match then the final 3 minutes and especially in the bottom position. He did not defend his legs well in the finals. The only thing that really bothered me with Heil was giving up the reversal at the end of the second and giving up his legs later in the match. The last period he should be more offensive because sliding into the defensive position has put him in very dangerous position. Still he is undefeated. Collica has had a great year. I don't know what happened in the finals but he did not wrestle well (put on his back). Smith has improved a lot and that needs to continue. I hope he is in the bracket opposite of Nolf. Nolf is unbelievable skilled, strong and a killer. In the big 10 finals he shot and Kemerer was sprawled in good shape and Nolf sucked him right in for the takedown. Rogers inconsistency is a concern and strong quick wrestlers like Joseph will beat him unless he is at the top of his game and makes a big move. Crutchmer is good but likely won't beat the top guys, I wish he would shoot more blast doubles and I don't know why he doesn't even try to ride guys as strong as he is. Boyd is solid and should all American, if he wrestles Nickol or the Iowa guy I hope he slows down a little bit and doesn't lose a match early ( it seems weird to say a guy sometimes is too aggressive. Weigel looked good and if he wrestles smart and gets a takedown he could place high. Schaefer wrestled well against poor competition, but he has wrestled well against good competition also. A little more improvement and he could all American maybe placing as high as 3rd. I would love for us to wrestle great and get 35. Thar really would be pay back plus on Pen. St. Suriano's health will be a big factor at Nationals.

I am concerned about our refusal to ride. We have not worked on getting riding time with some wrestlers. Crutch used to ride the crap out of his guys, now they are up and out in five seconds. Collica and Heil used to be beasts on top and they very seldom ride any of their opponents. Maybe the coaches think that we stand a better chance against counters on our feet than getting caught up in a scramble while trying to ride.
