So much of sports is confidence and getting off on the right foot. I take tonights' game as the start of the season. They are finally out of their comfort zone playing thousands of miles from home and in an atmosphere that will not be loud and nerve racking. Emotion will have to be brought from within .
I am really interested to see how we react when things go south like they do for a time in most games. Does this team revert to its Ford days and play first one over mid court shoots or do they play disciplined.
I was surprised after the second game when Underwood admitted that the team was not as good as he thought they would be at the time. He seems to be able to be focused on the future product and not the right now. It was surprising because he wants so bad to be good now to excite the fan base which isn't knocking down the doors of GIA as of yet.
I know everyone is counting the UCONN game as a sure thing but basketball is a strange game. A great shooting night can cancel out a lot of perceived differences in teams.
I recall a great OSU team playing in the Alaska Shootout and getting its ass handed to them in three straight.
Can this team so early in Underwoods' regime play smart disciplined ball? Will our shooters continue to hit the open shots? Will Jeff be the constant that we need in the front court? Who will be the guy that comes off the bench to give us a spark besides Jeff?
And one last thing from Underwood about Euro big men.His belief is that most American big men sit in the low post and clogs up the middle. Euros play non stop motion offense and the big guys are all over the court. These brings out the opponents bigs and opens the court for more penetration to the hoop which he loves.
He believes that Lucas with be a major factor for the team as early as conference time.
