I'm just trying to reconcile the GOP position on Social Security and your seemingly newfound concern for the financial well-being of seniors. I am glad that seniors a) are able to rely on SSI benefits despite repeated attempts by right-wingers to cut benefits, and b) that for those who desire/need additional income, there are jobs available.

I don't think many of us want Social Security benefit for Seniors cut, it's the benefits for illegals and lazy ass people taking advantage of overly generous disability programs.
I'll give you an example. One of my brother in laws was a airline pilot. Long story but he had to have emergency brain surgery to remove a brain tumor. Surgery was successful, he has zero side effects and was back to normal once the incisions healed but as you can imagine the Airlines and the FAA didn't want him flying anymore. While he couldn't fly anymore there was nothing that would have kept him from taking a desk job in the airline business or going to work doing something else. Nope, he qualified for Social Security disability. Why? He was perfect capable of working but instead the government paid him not to work.
Any idea what the SSI disability payment is? I genuinely have no idea, but would presume it is a small fraction of the value of an experienced, albeit grounded, pilot doing safety training, consulting, etc. Sounds like either he is lazy, or content, or maybe they accidentally removed his motivator.
