No, it was a legit question in the midst of an attempted beat down, which he answered and he's right at least in part. I seem to recall lots of hijinks with the United Fruit Co. in So. America back in the day, but never a wide-ass open war. The WWI thing is right -- there were shades of protecting commerce, but hard to say protecting private property was a big factor. Samoa and Hawaii I just don't know. Barbary was all about piracy and commerce, so he's got a point there too.
