I may have missed it somewhere else but I haven’t seen a good shout-out to Dakota Geer, so here’s mine:

Geer was seeded 26th but wrestled an amazing tournament finishing 7th. Along the way he defeated the #2, #3, #7 and #13 seeded wrestlers. He was knocked out of the medal round by Colbray of ISU who he lost to in the Big 12. He was bumped to the 7th place match by losing to the 8th seed Preisch of Lehigh who finished 4th.

Here’s a fact to highlight Dakota’s performance as compared to the rest of our team; Dakota was the only member of our team to defeat a wrestler that was seeded higher than he. The only exception, which I don’t choose to count, is Joe Smith who from the #33 seed beat the #15 & #32 but his seeding was ridiculous

To review; he defeated the #2, #3, #7 and #13 seeds; If he had beaten those seeds to win the national championship he could have be OW.

I totally agree with all of the above comments.

i think he's nolan boyd, but more athletic and a much better scrambler. Similar in that they're always on the attack shooting.

Boyd was one of my favorites and I've not been able to pin down why he's looked so familiar to me?

While watching Friday, my wife walks by and said, "has that guy been in college for a decade?" After questioning each other some, she actually thought it was Boyd.

But yes, very similar body type and movement. I made the comparison earlier and it fits. The guy Wrestled with a ton of heart and grit, but is probably more skilled than Boyd.

Nolan despite being a three time state champ was much more under the radar coming out of Deer Creek. Geer wrestled at who’s number 1, there’s not a lot of kids that have wrestled that event that haven’t made some noise wherever they went.

Both are high pace guys with great gas tanks and both are good on top. I think one difference is that Dakota has a better offensive attack. He gets to the legs probably as well as anyone on the team, including Picc. Would love to see the season takedown totals by wrestler.

I wish someone with more time on their hands then me would go back and find out how many times this season Dakota gave up the first take-down this year and came back to win the match. This would be a good lesson to other wrestlers who seem to me to be inordinately worried about giving up a take-down.

I would still pick Daton as our tournament OW with Dakota a close second. 133 was a loaded weight class and without the absurd stalemate call he would have been the champion. I agree with all the comments about Dakota, great that he is on our team.

It was a lot! I had the privilege of being a volunteer at Dakota's high school when he was a freshman and sophomore. Watching him this year I commented on how frequently he gave up the first takedown and sometimes the first two. In a few of those matches he even got multiple takedowns late, making it look easy. Not sure why he was reluctant to pull the trigger early.

It seemed it wasn't until he lost to Colbray that he got back to his style of wrestling and was on the attack more.

Fun Dakota fact. If you ever get a chance, shake hands with him. He has the biggest hands I have ever grabbed a hold of. Watch how, in neutral, he grabs his opponent's wrist with his right hand and turns it down. It is next to impossible to get him off of your wrist. Also one of the keys to his near side cradles and cross wrist tilt.
