Just finished the movie...

The Movie was good...dark & creepy...but good. I thought it was well-acted by all three of the main actors. Now how true was it?...I'm not sure. If accurate, Du Pont was one creepy dude. He seemed to have some serious Mommy-Issues to go along with his borderline personality.

As to Dave & Mark... Their zenith was a little before my time. Those of you who remember, can you tell me why Dave left OSU? Was it simply he couldn't break into the lineup? Conflicts with coaches? Why? The movie portrays him as a pretty good dude, and he was obviously a stud on the matt...just curious as to why. Because it would seem like the OSU coaches would have done everything in the world to hold onto him...plus, you're going to get Mark too, most likely, if you keep Dave.

Also, for those who haven't seen it, there's a scene where Mark Schultz wrestles Mike Sheets in the finals of Olympic qualifying to make the 1988 team. Of course, Schultz goes onto the 1988 Olympics and fails to medal, but that's the same year both Kenny Monday & John Smith won gold.

Copy and paste this on 34 and counting board and you will probably get your answers. Not sure how many of those guys read over here.

I'm barely old enough to remember Dave wrestling at OSU, but not old enough to remember why he left.

He was a star his true freshman year and had no problems breaking in to the starting lineup.

I was not happy when he and his brother transferred to OU.

It's a bizarre, weirdly entertaining story, in both the documentary and the dramatic form. I can respect the changes the film makers made for the dramatic version. IIRC, the biggest discrepancy in the movie is that the two brothers were actually never at the DuPont estate at the same time. It's interesting that Mark appeared in the 30 for 30 doc, but not the Netflix one. Has anyone read his book?

Yes, I have. He is still a very troubled soul, IMO.

His posts on national wrestling forums are pretty sad. Mostly they vary between wanting to fight someone and begging for a job.
