quote from the national story on qatar’s 15B bailout to turkey. there seems to be a clear understanding of american foreign policy.

Sir Ivor Roberts, an advisor to the Counter Extremism Project and retired British ambassador

“Erdogan has painted himself into a corner and is making a terrible mistake if he thinks President Trump is more likely to de-escalate than escalate,”

“It’s not likely to get away with it this time,” he said. "It will be more isolated not less."

So will the EU right? What about Russia? Qatar is not the problem, the Saudi’s and Emirates are closer to the problem in the ME. It would be idiotic to punish a state like Qatar when they hold one of our most important and largest strategic air base in the Region.

the quote and my post concern punishing the turks for holding an american pastor

trump brings hostages home

you are typical of the libtard monkey
you sow fear and proselytize what can’t be done

the turks will burn thru qatar’s 15B in short order rendering the assistance a non factor for the purpose of bringing our hostage home

Typical. Not a lib, but I’m proud to be slandered as one.

Turkey is part of my territory and have traveled quite a bit there. The educated/business class absolutely hate Erdogan. In fact the last time I was there took the fast ferry from Istanbul to Yenikapi. The engineer I was with was openly talking about what a dip shit Erdogan was and how it would be a disaster for him to get re-elected (which of course he did). He has basically shut down all opposition TV and his highest support comes from religious fanatics. His company has a JV with a very prominent American Company and built a plant specifically designed to fabricate steel for import into the US. I was a bit concerned that if my client was reported and me with him, I might not get out of there.

Another meeting I had in Istanbul was with a company that exports 60+% of their pipe to the US. These guys are all extremely worried about the path this guy has taken them down and all also agree that the "alleged coup" was an excuse for Erdogan to arrest dissidents. If it had been a real coup, driven by the military, they would have blown Erdogan's plane out of the sky when he was approaching Istanbul.

The election set up reminded me of the old elections in say NAZI Germany. There were banners strung across every road in Istanbul, Yenikapi and Ankara. Not talking about a few either, there were thousands along with Erdogan pictures splattered on buildings, cars and really any place they could be put. Were some opposition posters but nowhere near what Erdogan had. My cab driver said that the religious elements of his support would go out and tear down opposition folders at night and the police wouldn't do a thing. The banners draped across the roads (probably every 20 feet) were the kind that have the triangles attached to a cord across the whole road (much like what you see at grand openings). I was amazed how many there were........

He will lose and lose big.....can only hope he gets the Mussolini or Ceausescu treatment afterwards. He is a blight on an otherwise really nice country and very nice people.

Was planning on taken a trip to Istanbul and then recreate one of the old Orient express rides to Budapest, then the “coup” happened in 2015, I can’t wait till I can visit not only Turkey but Italy and Russia without oppressive regimes in place.

Pokeabear....you have to go to Cappadocia as well https://drifterplanet.com/cappadocia-is-the-most-magical-place-on-earth/ it is unbelievable and had I not had the opportunity to take my wife to Australia with me for almost 4 weeks (business and now 10 days of vacation) this was our destination and then one of my clients from Romania was going to let us use his Chalet in Romania for a week so would have been a nice trip. Anyway check the link out, its an incredibly unique place. I still have trips planned to Turkey btw, not really worried about Erdogan either. Most of the people there are incredibly nice and right now with the Lira where it is.......there are deals to be had (or really stolen). You will have no issues with anything connected to the tourist or hospitality industry because these people need the business (and great reviews). The only thing that sucks is the dam lines at Ataturk when you fly in and either clear customs or have to catch another flight. The lines are slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww and they ain't got no Global Entry or fast lanes.

Thank you for the tips and heads up! My wife and I haven’t had children yet so Travel is our baby. Hopefully turkey settles down enough soon that I could feel confident tooling around with the wife. I look forward to hearing about any other far flung places you have been. We are heading to Uruguay in about a year, just started planning.

you should try hiking the khyber pass
the locals are lovely
it’s beautiful this time of year
