Is there anything inherently racist about passing a law that makes English the national language?

Further, can you advance a solid Pro argument 4 it's adoption?

Honest question......if English becomes the official 'national' language, what exactly are we talking about here?

English is the official language all business is conducted in. No more 59 different languages for each ballot or official government document. English is the primary language used to teach in school. No more "press 1" for English. English is the default language of the United States.

Where I am going with this is the distinctions between a balkanized America and an America that has a distinct overarching culture....

Some threads that tie us all together regardless of backgrounds, race, religion, etcetera

So the broader question is, is there an American culture? Do we want an American culture?

I've never understood why dialing 1 for English was such a tremendous issue for people here.

It won't change much however as most businesses are providing those options because a large enough proportion of their customers speak Spanish.

Business is in business to make money. If my business would make more money having those phone options available, you can bet your sweet ass they'll be available.

Yep, I've always said big business is the biggest culprit.
