I haven't been the most tuned in to politics the last 6 months or so, but i did follow election 2016 very closely (prolly too close lol)

So...correct me if I'm wrong...

Rubio was the sole candidate (from the beginning) in primaries that advocates for the illegal immigrants in the country. Maybe Jeb (JEB!) did, too. But, he was such a non factor from spring of 2016 on it didn't matter. Between this and the 'gang of eight' controversy... he loses momentum and Trump finishes him off with a myriad of insults and policy attacks.

Trump pivots over time... gives State of the Union and says he will give a path for $1.8 million illegal immigrants (you notice the camera shot at Rubio showed him very torn on whether to even applaud)

Nancy Pelosi gives an 8-hour speech about how Trump is the first US president to be against illegal immigrants.

So what am I missing? Does she not think $1.8 million enough? Is she focusing on who is NOT included in the $1.8 mil? Is it something else?

I think they want a solution. They just want their name, and their name only on it.

The issue here is that while the Dems would love to have the 1.8 million 'daca-eligible' immigrants given a path to acceptance and citizenship, they don't want to have to do anything to address the continuing imigration issues in order to achieve it. They want that piece done so they can then sit and refuse to address border security, chain migrations, diversity lotteries, etc. In effect, they don't want to compromise on a solution, as they believe that if Trump actually revokes DACA and begins deporting these immigrants that he'll lose the messaging/visibility battle. Thus they'd rather do nothing and make the Republicans enforcing the law be the bad guys rather than actually compromising on law changes and giving these individuals a real path to citizenship and acceptance in our society.

Edit: AKA, they are just pawns for the Dems who don't want to solve the problem and make the immigrants' lives better but rather use them as a stick to bash Republicans.

Remember, Dems have 3 major issues where they can bash Repubs that middle America aligns with:
1) Immigration
2) Environment
3) SJW

SJW doesn't resonate to the middle as much any more as while most American's support LGBT rights and lifestyles, the left continues to push that beyond any levels of reasonableness (as the thead earlier highlighted with the new LGBTQQAANK+ acronym.) So that's not a winning message. Most Repubs will compromise on reasonable environment regulations. This leaves immigration as the only actionable lever for the Dems. I truly believe Dems do not want to give up that stick.
