I agree we need to massively reign in foreign aide but this was not the right legislation to do that. Much to the dismay of Democrats, Republicans barely passed this bill through the House. Adding an Amendment like this would have given Democrats life and put the blame for a government shut down on Republicans. Would have been a true snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory moment.
I hate that we have to play politics instead of doing the right thing but this wasn't the time to have this fight. Keep the government open and continue the fight.
