1. Oklahoma 3-0: Sooners won at Tennessee a lot differently than they won at home against Tulsa,
2. Texas Tech 3-0: Arkansas isn't any great shakes -- the Razorbacks lost at home to Toledo -- but still, winning in the Ozarks isn't easy.
3. TCU 3-0: Since playing TCU close in Minneapolis, Minnesota has proven to be a little shaky, squeaking past Colorado State and Kent State. But at least the Frogs have a road win over a Big Ten team. That trumps anything seven of the league's 10 teams have done.
4. OSU 3-0: Central Michigan has proven to be decent -- the Chippewas lost in overtime at Syracuse on Saturday -- and the Cowboys' road win in Mount Pleasant, Mich., is just that. Decent.
5. West Virginia 2-0: The Mountaineers are ranked ahead of Baylor because I figure Georgia Southern is better than SMU. But it's nothing I'd want to stake my reputation on.
6. Baylor 2-0: I'm ready to see Baylor against some real teams. Alas, this week, the Bears have Rice.
7. Kansas State 3-0: The Wildcats were fortunate to survive Louisiana Tech. I wonder if La Tech coach Skip Holtz considered going for a 2-point conversion after the Bulldogs' touchdown in the first overtime. When you're the underdog on the road, a one-shot play sometimes is your best bet.
8. Texas 1-2: Give UT some credit. Down 45-24 to California, the Longhorns could have folded.
9. Iowa State 1-2: Tough two weeks for the Cyclones. Tied with Iowa down the stretch. In overtime with Toledo. Underdogs in both games. Both tough-luck losses. Doesn't seem to be happening for ISU.
10. Kansas 0-2: A bye is good news around Lawrence.
