The short answer is no. He has no idea how to negotiate an agreement. The first rule of thumb is to know what your competition is doing, and the worth of keeping the assets you have secure. Obviously Holder didn't know Underwood's market value, and was unwilling to make an offer that was close to what other teams were willing to offer. Illinois just absorbed a 3 million dollar buyout, and nearly tripled what we were paying Underwood. In addition, it appears that Holder is a grade A pain in the ass to deal with. That makes it harder for us to negotiate a contract in order to keep a coach.

Underwood is the best coach we've had since Coach Sutton, and we couldn't keep him for more than a year. This could have been avoided if we had an AD with half a brain.

Holder has one chance to redeem himself. He must use the 3 million dollar buyout to get us a proven coach, or hand in his resignation.

How does he justify paying Ford 2-3 times more money than Underwood, and keep his job?
