I don’t know about the number but npr expert today said kids at the border just a few years ago were rare. Now because they were freedom tickets under obama they are showing up by the thousands.

Kinda makes you wonder what has changed. Might there be something to some of these requests for asylum? You had a lot of economic refugees in the past, a fancy phrase for sneaking in to make dough to send home.

The too obvious too easy answer is "well now it is easier to get in if you have kids"... that ignores the peril of getting here and the obvious knowledge now of the price if you get caught as well as running counter to the narrative that there is nothing new being done by the Trump administration.

I am very sympathetic to what is happening to these kids - quite open to understanding the mechanics of how we got here and hoping for a more humane method of dealing with the problem. Further I am disgusted by the administration holding the humanitarian crisis out as a means to try and force a resolution on border wall funding.

Four presidents with open borders, what trump is doing is harsh, but it will force our representatives to do what they promised. These kids are all safer than they were five minutes before they were taken away and are safer than they have ever been in their lives. 30 days of our worst conditions are the gateway to their best chance at a good life.
