I am so shocked they reached an agreement. Both sides will claim victory and exclaim how they avoided certain disaster. The "debt ceiling" will be lifted through January 2025. Both sides will still continue spending like drunken sailors on shit they make money from when they control the government and clutch pearls about the "debt we're kicking down the road to our Chillren!" when they don't. And the masses will continue to fall for it which is astonishing in 2023 considering I literally googled what another board member suggested and it's all become comical from there. MMT is a description of our fiat currency system. I don't lose sleep over a $32 trillion surplus on the private balance sheet.

*Note that the debt ceiling deal lasts through the next presidential election. With the looming presidential election shitshow, ain't nobody in DC got time for OMG THE DEBT theatrics when all focus needs to be on brainwashing the usual suspects to pick between two absolutely disgusting old men. If that doesn't tell you how duped you are if you believe this debt BS, you're screwed.

I'm still waiting to actually see what all is in included in the deal. However, based on what has been reported so far, the deal doesn't seem that bad considering what both the President and Speaker are dealing with in their own parties. No deal is going to make the extremes in both parties happy. That is just the nature of compromise.

Will be interesting to see if McCarthy can get this through the House. Given the numbers, a decent Speaker should be able to get this passed, even with some of his own party voting against it. That is, of course, if Biden and Jeffries are able to deliver enough Democratic yea votes, which they should be able to do.

Whatever the details who thinks Kev can deliver a majority of this GOP House?

The Dems will bring it across the line but Kev is likely toast.

If the capitulation by “Kev” is as bad as it appears to be “Kev” deserves to be toast.

Dang, I would think any Speaker worth his salt would be able to get at least a majority of his own caucus to vote for his own deal.

Of course, we are talking about the guy who needed 15 ballots to get elected Speaker.

Governance over Ideology.
Yep. And to my progressive friends that care about ideology and have concerns about this deal, I will encourage them to get out and work hard to elect more progressives to the House in '24 so that Democrats can regain control of the House. Then we will be on stronger footing come 2025.

Governance over Ideology. Sometimes you gotta amputate a limb to save the patient or #whatnot #amiright @Medic007 ?
I have learned over the years that when left-wing extremists don’t complain as loudly as the right-wing extremists when a compromise is reached it usually means the right-wing extremists got torched.

There are plenty of complaints coming from the left regarding the deal.

But does it bother you if right-wing extremists got torched over left-wing extremists? You like to proclaim you aren't a right-winger, so why should you care?

I am a so called “right-winger” when it comes to economic issues. Have never pretended otherwise. But what “wing” I identify with on an issue, including this one, has nothing to do with my observation. The “extremist right-wing” liberty caucus got torched, or so they’re saying. It seems they’re like Charlie Brown trying to kick Lucy’s football, they are always the ones who get suckered.

Well I should hope you know. I haven’t shouted it from the rooftop, but I’ve not hidden my advocacy of free markets and opposition to economic government interference from anyone. It was the primary reason I was (and remain) so critical of DJT’s economic policies. And it’s one of the primary reasons I have such spite for the Biden team’s socialist/reactionary economic drive.

if a deal has been reached, it just means McCarthy has caved and it's a win win for the dems with a few meaningless cherries thrown in.

Why are the American people, regardless of political affiliation, not pissed off this has been allowed to take place? Debt ceiling issue should have been solved before January but these worthless POS's, on both sides, have to push it to the very end for political theater.

How important is your right-wing economic commitments? Where do they rank in comparison to other political issues?

Also, do you actively oppose everyone who advocates for economic government interference?

The ghost of John Boehner is laughing his ass off at Kev right now. Wait, Boehner isn't dead? #whoknew

He's not laughing at Kev. He's laughing along with Kev as they look at the Liberty Caucus and say: "we whupped 'em again, Kev!"

"The American people are concerned with responsible members of the Congress preventing a dangerous default, supporting the tremendous leadership of President Biden and stopping extreme MAGA Republicans from crashing the economy. That's exactly what House Democrats did today, and bailed out the majority from their own extremism."

"Once again, House Democrats to the rescue to avoid a dangerous default and help House Republicans get legislation over the finish line that they negotiated themselves." - House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries

Jeffries says House Democrats bailed out the GOP "from their own extremism"

Democrats running to the rescue? How naïve are you? This was nothing but political theater from all parties involved and you fell for it. At no time was default on the table even though it should have been. All this does is kick the can down the road like they always do but hey congrats you got what you wanted trillions more in government spending creating trillions more in debt our children will be saddled with.

It isn't debt like a car loan. There's nothing to "pay back." That $32 trillion is dollars in the non-US government sector balance.

I do not understand what you’re saying that there’s nothing to pay back. Why is there interest on the debt? Why does the government have to pay interest on something that doesn’t need to be paid back? China doesn’t need to be paid back? What do you mean by the “non-US government sector balance?” And how did the $32 trillion get there? If $32 trillion is no problem why not just run it up to $100 trillion? A quadrillion? Why is it called a debt if it doesn’t need to be paid back?

Kev giving pork to Dems to move the vote forward. Lol.

I know this sounds kindof right wingerish, but... WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICA??

Conservatives are banning books because their little snowflakes might see something nasty or racial. They scream about vaccines.....

I remember back in the day hitting the library to look at naked women (sex ed) and lining up in the parking lot in the first grade for vaccines (incl. polio) and now it's like if their snowflake sees something that isn't consistent with their family values, they scream and want government to change it. Hell look at Mullin -- screaming that a child may be uncomfortable because a book says something that other kids could use against white kids, lol. The idiocracy really is here.

I don't remember having access to books that showed how to give head, have anal sex or that taught me black people were bad.
