My company is working through some changes in our current relocation and was curious as to what your company offers for those of you that have moved or are required to move on a semi-regular basis.

I am required to relocate every 18-24 months and currently the entire relo is one lump-sum payment and then everything else is on me. Enough to cover any out of pocket costs but nothing in terms of outside assistance, moving specialist etc.

I haven't been in this situation myself, but I do know several guys in upper management at various companies that have had a similar situation. All of their situations involved a lump sum payment for moving costs, but only one (Best Buy) provided a moving team for the move. Packed up all the stuff for him, provided the storage on truck and temp in-town and unloaded when a place was found

But, they all received a chunk of cash like you.

It's been a long time since I had a corp relo but back in the day State Farm did it right. Essentially paid for everything and provided me an incentive to sell my home. Now that was 17 years ago and it seems like most benefits like these have slowly faded away.

I relocated with a major oil field services company and their moving package was unbelievable. Paid my closing costs on my old home and new home (including realtor), had an incentive to sell the home in less than 30 days, including covering 80% of any loss on the home I was selling. Paid for one visit to new city, mileage/hotel/meals to house hunt. Movers to pack and unpack etc...There were other smaller things too, I just can't remember everything now....and I wasn't even management just a peon.

I tried to ask for a lump sum payment but was not able to get it. I think I would have come out on top paying for all of that out of pocket and taking the lump sum and I would have saved them money by not hiring a professional relocation company to assist in the move...

After doing three in five years, It's been eight years since my last one. Lump sum payment upfront for incidentals, house hunting trip, utility deposits and such. The company paid for packing and moving and unpacking, covered the realtors fees for sale of the house and covered all the closing costs for the new house. The relocation company handled the mortgage for the new house. Best company I have ever dealt with. Also provided cash as tax assistance to offset the tax due on the moving benefits.

The company I started for ideally liked to move everyone about every two years and all they provided was a lump sum payment until you reached a certain point in the company.

Two good friends who worked in the oil and has industry had experienced like oilman posted. It depends on your pay and postion level. You may be at a point where you should ask/demand more assistance or money.

My company will purchase my house if I can't sell in 90 days. If I do sell, they pay realtor fees and give me 10% additional, otherwise I get the average of 2 appraisals. They pay for movers to pack and move. I get closing costs on new house plus $2500 for deposits and incidentals. I get 3 months temporary housing in new location and a paid house hunting trip for the family.

Basically, nothing out of pocket to move. It's a pretty sweet deal.
