CNN head: 'Fox News is a propaganda machine'

Legitimate question.

How many posters ITT watch Fox News fairly regularly?

Let's set some guidelines.

Clearly, if you turn it on every day, you are going to answer "yes". If you almost never watch it, you are going to answer "no". If you occasionally turn it on, roll your eyes and turn it off, you are going to answer "no". If you rarely watch TV news, but almost always watch Fox News when you do, answer "yes".

I'm very curious about this. Speaking for myself, I almost never watch TV news. I try to stay away from both CNN and FOX when I do turn it on. Occasionally I will watch one or the other while taking everything with a shaker of salt.
I read the websites of Fox and CNN, among others, daily. Usually check first thing in morning to see what headlines are.

I don’t normally watch TV news except when major events occur.

Anyone saying CNN isn't totally biased on the left, with no modicum of balance, is an idiot.

Anyone saying Fox isn't totally biased on the right, with no modicum of balance, is equally an idiot.

From what I've seen in this thread:

The Fox supporters admit the unbalance, showing rational thought and transparency

The CNN supporters are living in fantasy land believing there is some balance, whether naive or simply stubborn, we will never know

I think the problem with debates nowadays is many folks confuse opinions as facts. Not sure who you can quantify who is killing the other by modern day "facts." Like I said before these networks are nothing more than echo chambers. The claims one might make that CNN is killing the other with facts, the other side can make the same claim. If CNN speaks to your demo then they are killing it with facts, if Fox speaks to your demo they are killing it with facts because that's how you want to believe and are more willing to accept their opinionfacts. Why anyone watches these networks anymore is beyond me.

I contest that CNN is as partisan as FOX. I looked in on FOX from a hotel room the other day and... my gawd. Deep state this and that, as if there's really an adjudicated secret conspiracy that is resisting Trump. They were so overtly partisan that frankly it was incredible.

That said, I turned on CNN after work the other day and it was such pop, bubble gum, entertainment-style, crap that it was offensive. Last night I turned it on and the only guy that really made sense was a former Giuliani guy -- and they were all talking heads that would spend 20 minutes opining about a fact. They piled on every single dem potus, too. A network that lays into Trump isn't by definition biased -- he legitimately deserves heat and scrutiny. They may be ditzy and dumbed down and lacking in substance, but I don't think they're biased -- they simply pile on whatever helps ratings.

You can't equate the crazy conservative Trump-worship and narrative on FOX with CNN's stuff. They are not the same. CNN has on Trump defenders and cons all the time. Fox's "debate" was three conservatives trading opinions about the deep state.

There are plenty of journalists that report facts with a degree of journalistic integrity -- some are political, some are not. I just lack the patience to watch video of someone telling me facts, as opposed to reading it on the internet in a fraction of the time.

Bias simply depends on your starting POV so all networks that don't line up with a person's beliefs will be biased. You have more left leanings so of course, Fox is going to look worse to you than it would NZpoke and vice versa. I don't watch these shows anymore simply because I just grew tired of all the opinions being passed off as facts and then folks just swallowing the opinions and spitting them back out. I still remember having to track the news when I was getting my degree and it really was quite interesting to see how much commentary was starting to leak into the news 25 years ago. I look at CNN as old money and Fox as new money. Old money likes to look down on new money and think they are better than the new money; the New money likes to make fun of the old money and pretty much fly them the finger. Reality is new and old money are both a-holes.

I actually like smart conservatives that work off of truths and ideas. I used to watch William F. Buckley's show every now and then and read his articles in his magazine quite a bit. George Will and Krauthammer have written some fantastic op-eds. This isn't about bias -- I don't mind bias if it's disclosed right up front, frankly I expect an informed, accurate and driven journalist at some point to develop a bias and explain why, unless they're a sociopath. I want intellectual honesty though, and there is zero of that on FOX. That's an overstatement, I haven't seen everyone on Fox. What I've seen, and it's limited over the last few years, is they do not give one shit about truth or fiction -- it's purely partisan talking points. FOX's sexual harassment culture is also something I find objectionable. It was insane.

I totally agree with you re opinions and rehashing opinions all the time. At one point CNN had on some gal I've never heard of before, she can't be out of her 20's, and her expertise is... she's a writer. On national tv explaining what current events mean. I'm good.

Very interesting take. The difference between you and me is that I agree with what you say about Fox re: intellectual honesty, yet I believe CNN is equally as guilty and you don't. Interesting that only the network you disagree with is the one that is intellectually dishonest when I think they both are equal culprits. Saying CNN is more pure than Fox is one of the funniest things anyone could espouse.

I think what you've seen is what most people see on each network, the worst examples for their broadcasts because they make for good click bait. Personally, I've always enjoyed Britt Hume from Fox and Jake Tapper from CNN. I think you can find good on both sides. Now if all you've ever seen is the Hannity's of the world I'm not going to argue that he doesn't appear to care at all about the truth but if I really cared to continue this discussion I'm sure I could find plenty of bat poop crazy talking heads from CNN, Cuomo and Obrien pop to mind but admittedly I don't really watch them.

I hate to burst your bubble but the Fox culture isn't a Fox culture, it's a news media culture. There's more sex going on in newsrooms than most frat houses. In a weird twist, if you really hated the Fox culture, then you should really be thankful to all the women of Fox who started blowing some whistles and thus made it easier for women at other stations to have the courage to speak up. So in this regard Sys is Pro Fox News. Crazy world we live in.

Occasionally I'll watch a little Dana Perino, I find her smart and pretty damn cute. I think she's on around 5.

Said on the news this AM than CNN pays airports up to $150,000/yr for exclusive rights. Also said several airports are feeling the heat for this exclusivity.

I think CNN use to be just left of center. But since they fell behind MSNBC in ratings and are now consistently third in ratings among the main three cable news networks, CNN has changed. In many ways they are further left than MSNBC in their actual news portion of their day.

CNN is now so anti-Trump that they have lost any credibility they used to have. Any news organization that purports to truly be a news organizations would have canned, or at the very least reassigned, that clown Jim Acosta.

Case in point that a person needs to read/watch news for multiple sources: Currently (11AM), of the top 12 listed headlines on the msnbc.com website ... 10 are about March For Our Lives. The other two are about Stormy Daniels and transgender in military.

If Fox is making no effort to be critical of the President when he's wrong, then they're no better than CNN or the rest of the MSM was with Obama.

Fox and their guests are ripping the prez for signing this bill. Very fair and balanced.
