Seeing as how this is a big topic lately, I have to ask...

Would someone who considers themself a “centrist” (a label many on this board claim to hold, including myself at times) skew too far in either direction?

The simple answer is no, but at a glance, it would seem to me the conservatives on this board believe untouched, unregulated capitalism (perhaps even anarchocapitalism) is far superior to adding a few doses of socialism/communism to the mix to balance things out.

Comments/criticisms welcome let’s have some actual elevated discourse here.

I don't think many people consider capitalism as a far right position in the spectrum in relation to socialism/communism being a far left position. If you're looking for a position on the right that is equivalent to socialism/communism, you'll probably want to choose something like monarchy.

Other than extreme left, I'm pretty sure everyone on the political spectrum favors some level of capitalism/private property ownership/etc. Just as nearly everyone on the political spectrum favors some level of public services and assistance.

Conversely, centrists likely want nothing to do with communism or monarchy.

Do you condone insider trading on Wall Street?

I'm not against the government setting regulations that benefit its citizens. But nothing that it takes ownership of entirely comes out best. Thus creating laws to make the pharmaceutical markets more competitive and to drive down costs is good. Taking over healthcare with a one size fits all plan is bad.
