Can I say no to the guy at Walmart that asks to see my receipt?

Every time I go to Walmart there is a guy standing at the door that let's 5 crackheads walk out and stops me to ask to see my receipt. I bring my own bag, I use the self checkout, I am professionally dressed. Why do I keep getting stopped? Is there some requirement by law for me to stop and prove I am not stealing anything? Can I just say "no" and keep on walking? I would love to see one of them lay their hands on me to try and stop me. My lawyer would have a field day with that lawsuit.

Why would you bring your own bag? I’ve never been asked to show a receipt at WalMart. Maybe they have a poster of you in the break room

US Aldi does not own trader joe’s or vice versa.

Two brothers owned Aldi in Germany. They had a schism in the 1960s over selling cigarettes in the store. They divided into Aldi Nord and Aldi Surd. One side owns all of the Aldi’s in the US. The other side bought Trader Joe’s in the 1970s and expanded it to what we have today.

Good thread, good discussion. The only thing I can see to add is to amplify the “it’s their store” idea by saying they could ban you for not playing by their rules. Then the next time you sneak in there for something, it’s a potential trespassing arrest looking for a place to happen.

Sucks.

If it bothers you enough you really want to invest the time and effort to make an issue I would suggest requesting to see the store manager when ask for the receipt for the 20th time. Be polite but firm. Explain to the manager exactly what the issue is. You shop at Walmart regularly and are consistently ask for your receipt. Point out the only explanation you can come up with is the bringing your own bag thing? Ask if it is Walmart's policy to ask for a receipt if people bring their own bags. Get the managers name if possible and write a follow up letter to customer service. Be interesting to see how they respond.
