Interesting and telling.

Flynn declines....and demands immunity before he will come. Guns = "the Committee is a witch hunt anyway". He shouldn't appear..

Comey declines.....to talk about his ex-employer a week after being canned. Guns = "it's telling".

So what's the point of committees requesting people to testify if they can just refuse?

I'm ignorant of the laws with these types of requests.

Why would Flynn testify without immunity? Flynn served his country for over thirty years and then does some private work after retirement and everyone wants to put him in jail.

Comey just doesn't want to answer tough questions about his incompetence.

They ask them to avoid bothering to issuing and serving subpoenas compelling public testimony.

If they wanted to compel attendance, they could.

And as part of that service, he agreed NOT to accept any money from any foreign government or business controlled in whole or part by a foreign govt. As he was subject to being recalled to active service, BEFORE he could agree to take any compensation (beyond $350) he was LEGALLY was required to get approval from the Sec of Army and the Sec of State.

He was given this info upon separation from the military.

Secondly, anytime you engage in any sort of lobbying for a foreign govt you MUST register as a lobbyist. This is not something that is taken lightly, there's people who have gone to prison for failing to register. The penalty for violating that portion of the US Code is up to 5 yrs in prison.

Plenty of others have served their country in uniform as long or longer than Flynn, without managing to break the law in retirement.

Fine, if he's guilty of crimes then he'd be an idiot to testify without immunity.

Comey swore under oath that he nor any of his close associates leaked information to the press.

Intimate deals of his private 1 on 1 dinner with Trump were published in the NYT. Supposedly information shared by Comey's close associates. More likely it was by him.

Maybe he doesn't want to testify to avoid a perjury charge.

In the words of Mike Flynn - “When you are given immunity, that means you probably committed a crime."

Can charges be brought against those who testify in front of Congress? How is it different from a Grand Jury?

I'm serious and wanting to understand.

Hell, I probably wouldn't testify before congress with out immunity and I've never even been to DC.

Hell, I don't blame you; they have pictures of you touching your dog in strange places - even if you don't have a dog!:D

Senate doesn't file criminal charges (except for contempt charges which are done through USAtty). It is completely different than a grand jury.

Someone that testifies under oath before Congress could see their statements used against them in subsequent criminal proceedings and that is why the take the 5th if the testimony before Congress would tend to incriminate them.

They can subpoena and can hold individuals in contempt. The problem is this is for gaining information about bills or hearings. Congress is not going to criminally charge. It can get very messy but as we saw during the last administration they Congress could not even enforce how the 5th is taken. They have backed themselves into a weak corner when it comes to this kind of power.

Reports are out there now that the reason Comey declined the invitation is because it was a closed door session and he wants his testimony to be public.

Even contempt charges have to go through the USAtty's office.

This kind of power has always been pretty weak. The one time it was pushed to its limits was the House UnAmerican Committee and McCarthy.

Interesting that refusal to showup for questioning is a clear sign that there is a cover-up, but showing up and pleading the 5th to every question means "nothing to see here". Maybe Flynn should just do the Lois Lerner routine. Nothing happened to her and that got swept under the rug as a fake controversy.

And he probably did. Obviously he wasn't smart enough to setup a foundation in his name to funnel these types of payments through. But how does collecting money from Russia while working in the Obama administration link to Trump colluding with Russia, other than pointing out a lazy vetting process by Trump.

By the way, since you support Flynn's position, I assume you agree then that Hillary and her counterparts did commit a felony in her use of a personal server. I mean all of the techs and aids asked and were granted immunity, so by definition, are guilty. Right?

Pretty sure JD has posted numerous times he thinks Hillary and company committed crimes.

You forgot talking to the Russians as Trump's NSA advisor and lying about it.

You continue talk about linking Trump colluding with Russia too....the investigation is into Russian attempts to illegally contact and influence Trump administration officials and those officials complicity in such things.

Those aren't the same thing....and I have stated that more than once.
