Honestly, I've had an infatuation with this part of the country much longer than I've wanted to harvest a bear. Really excited to get up there and it's still 7 1/2 months away. Going up with a good friend & pledge brother. Was trying to make it a group trip, but the price scared a couple other buddies away.

Couldn't pass this one up though, bought two tags. Hope to arrow one and take another larger bear with the ol' 300 weatherby mag.

Right now I'm thinking one head on rug & another rug and an European mount.

Congrats Chiro! The pacific NW is a special place to me... can be very wild. Sounds like fun. Soooo they won't let you sell the bear gall... (illegal) but too bad as it seem that may have paid for your hunt!

That's not how I understood it.

"Bear galls are the property of the bear tag holder and are to remain with the bear during transport. It is a violation of Quinault Indian Nation Tribal law and the laws of Washington State to sell bear galls."

Why couldn't you harvest the g.b., and ship it home with the meat? Then what would stop you from doing whatever you wanted to with it? State law? I don't know. Will have to check.

Here's the reply I received from my friend with the Ok WD......

"you can only sell it if it was harvested on a commercial hunting area. you must have proof of such as well. it doesn't matter if it was from another state or not. it simply must be from a permitted commercial hunting area.
hope that helps"!

Sounds like fun, just curios we had priced some hunts up in Canada and was wondering if you could give us a general price range including tags for two bears.

First tag $250, if I remember correctly, I think I was told the second tag was only $50. The guide is 2k.

I know guys that have paid twice this much for much smaller bears in both Idaho & Montana. Not to mention both of these guys went to extremely remote camps for 7-10 hunts. Literally places that you could only get to by helicopter or mini monster truck looking SUV's.

I don't know about you guys....but I've been in a primitive camp with a bunch of other dudes for up to 5 days. And my IPhone can only entertain me for so long & I can only drink so much whiskey! That's too long for me, & really for a self employed man like myself to be out of the office. To be honest, a 5 day hunt, with lodging in a damn nice casino just 20 some miles from hunting grounds is alright by me!

Back to your question about the prices, you've got to understand that you're going to pay around $1,500 & up to $2,000 for each "head on" bearskin rugs. Not to mention the shipping for meat.
