I sit in section 117 and have for years. This offseason, they basically made my seat too small for anybody over 5'10" tall. My knees go 2-3" over the seat in front of me. Needless to say, I sent in a complaint to the ticket office and to the AD office.
I got a phone call on Tuesday from a guy that said he was calling for feedback from people in section 117 and 118. My first question to him was if he really wanted to hear my thoughts and pass them along or if this was just a followup to my email. He said he had no idea that I had sent a message in regarding issues and that this was in response to many unhappy calls they have received. I told him that I wasn't sure I could keep my tone civil once I got started and that any anger was not at him, but at the clowns who decided the changes were a good idea. So we began.
Ultimately I was told that the head of the Posse and CW were the ones to make the call to make the seating area smaller/shorter. I told him that I think that Chad should have to give up his box and sit in my section for the remainder of the season. Same for the head of the Posse. I also said that I was absolutely pissed off that nobody thought it prudent to tell people that they were going to make the seats suck. Instead I had to worry about reseating, ended up having to call in from France because the reseating tool wouldn't work for me or anybody including the ticket office. The call cost me a lot of money because the call took well over an hour. It was over 30 minutes to talk to a person and another almost hour for her to get it resolved. All to find out that the seats have been made almost unsittable for me. Its a crappy situation because what I want them to do is fix their mistake and make the seats not suck. But I know what they will do is offer some sort of deal for those that want to move. I don't want to move. I've become quite close to those that sit around me over the last 20 years. They are great people that I want to be around. So I have three options as I see it. 1) move away from my friends knowing that I will no longer have the game day experience I've had for two decades. 2) stick it out in complete discomfort and hold onto these seats. 3) just stop buying tickets. I don't see #3 as realistic just yet. My seats before this were next to two guys that were basically the old guys from the muppets but less funny. It was brutal, so #1 scares the crap out of me. That leaves me as staying as the best of the bad options.
I told him that I don't know if Chad is very good at his job based on what we've seen from him as an athletic director. Pretty much everything turns to crap around him. Had the worst single season of OSU athletics in a LONG time last year under his leadership. He's not made changes that almost everyone knows needs to be made. I like Chad as a person, I've had a few conversations with him over the years. But that doesn't make him a good AD.
I hope that he took good notes and passed on pretty much everything I said.
I still think that Chad should be forced to sit my seat for more than a game. He and I are similarly built and I know he would be miserable which is the whole point. Its like the airline CEOs that have never sat in a coach seat. Most of them are my height or a little taller. If they were forced to consume the product they are offering up, I bet different decisions would be made. I'm just fortunate enough that I qualify for slightly more leg room on American Airlines than base line economy seats or I would have the same complaint there.
