Bo Bassett

Well I was told here that Iowa has the greatest following in all of collegiate sports so adding one kid is not going to generate any more revenue than they already generate.

I've also yet to see anyone who gets paid at such a higher rate than anyone else on the team ever be a true positive factor for that team. Most likely it becomes an issue in the room and thus divides the team more than brings them together.

Gable is/was the biggest name in college wrestling and I can't recall Minny getting any sort of bump due to his dominance and flare.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a talent like Bo at OSU but my fear was always that at this level there's only so much oxygen in the room and having one kid take up so much of it I think could be detrimental. I could always be wrong and he could be the catalyst to the next Iowa dynasty (although with their coach I just can't see that happening).

All things we're going to find out. Iowa gets Melvin and Keegan with his commitment. Now who comes next? Jax? Raney x2? Mocco?

Iowa needs a LOT to get back in the conversation of beating PSU in the next 4-6 years.

We need Jax, and hopefully few more pieces. Raneys maybe out of equation for us now. How about Coby Merrill, can one of Ross or Coby get to 197 ? Do we have a chance with Adam Waters and Domenic Munaretto?

I hope the Raneys go to Illinois.
So you wish bad things on them for their career?

Well, the upside is that we don't have to hear about it anymore. I do wonder if he’ll excel past ADS who was high volume but never quite made it to that highest tier.

This kind of NIL can’t be good for our (non-revenue) sport. Paying a recruit more than most coaches including his own coach, ow. On principle I’m glad it wasn’t us paying this kid 5 million bucks.

Heard OSU offered Jax a pretty hefty price and more than 95% of coaches in the sport make. And, nobody knows what BO was offered and he himself said all the offers were in the same ballpark. I won’t say what I heard for Jax because it’s all gossip, just like the $5m figure

I heard Jax got offered a cattle ranch in Talihina and box seats at the BPS Turnpike concert in April

LOL. You realize that 95% of college wrestling coaches make under $300k, right? So over 5 years, Jax was offered $60k a year. What's the problem with that.

He absolutely was

This sounds exactly like something you would say after the fact.
Review my many posts on the subject of Bo on the PSU board. I always had a bad feeling about the Bassetts with regard to being too money centered going back 8 months ago. You don't get $5M unless you invite the conversation. I don't begrudge them taking the $5M. I just would have played the ending differently then they did.

You realize NIL deals are year to year, right? So, I am talking about what “I heard” he was offered for one year. And, yes, the offer I heard was higher than the number you referenced above. I don’t have a problem at all. I guess you missed my point - I said folks shouldn’t throw silly numbers around when they really don’t know. Half of these rumors regarding bags are coming from coaches.

Where will Cody M. fit in if Ross and/or Coby go 197? Cody feels like he's the real deal.

Iowa fan coming in here defending their NIL numbers was not on my bingo card. lol. Whatever he gets paid, good for Bo. Doesn’t matter what we pay for Jax, I would like him to be a cowboy. Every schools pay players. Every one. College sports changed long back.

Sorta right. But if you think one year deals are what’s happening, good luck in life.

Also, coaches aren’t carrying or handing off bags.

Ross has no shot at 197. He is already at 6-3 and 225 as a HS junior. If he redshirts, he has three years to bulk up to 250-260. That's a pretty easy reach three years out.
It's possible his natural weight is close to 200 and he's bulked up for football. If he doesn't plan to play football in college, he could move down if those things are true. But yeah just from the eye test, it doesn't look like 197 would be easy
