Tier 1.
1. Baylor --- Off week but TCU continues to pile up injuries on both sides of the ball. Seth Russell has looked really good and they have great weapons at WR & RB. The defense has been really disappointing considering the talent. But, they could just be sleep walking through the "preseason" considering the competition. They play Rice next weekend and then travel to Lubbock on Oct 3rd. First team to 60, right?
2. TCU --- The Frogs continue to pile up injuries. They've now lost 5 defensive starters for the season including their top CB yesterday. Their top WR Kolby Listenbee appeared to re-injured a hip, but Patterson said after the game that it was just cramping and he will be fine. The Frogs have come out of the gate rather sluggish, but we are still in September. Let's see what they do in the next several weeks.
Tier 2.
3. OU --- Baker Mayfield looked really, really impressive. The offensive line & defense will continue to be issues. The Sooners now have 2 weeks to prepare for the Mountaineers.
4. Oklahoma St --- Offensive tempo and consistency is still an issue but the team has gotten better each game. Rudolph is spreading it around and Carson seems to be gaining confidence. We will learn a lot about this team in Austin. I think you can alternate any of these tier 2 teams until they play better teams.
5. West Virginia --- I put them ahead of Tech because of defense. They might have the best in the league with talent, scheme, & depth. Like many other teams, they haven't played anyone. We will know more about this team in 2 weeks when they travel to Norman.
6. Texas Tech --- Patrick Mahomes is playing like the best Big 12 QB. The Red Raiders have weapons at WR & RB as well. The defense is bad most of the time. Good win for Kingsbury & TT, but Arkansas is not good this year. I'm really intrigued to see what they do against TCU. Beat TCU and they vault to Tier 1.
7. Kansas St --- The Wildcats had a gritty win vs LA Tech in triple OT. The Cats struggled offensively in parts of the game due to inconsistency at QB. If you remember, they lost their #1 QB for the season in Week 1 so they are now riding it out with #2 Joe Hubener. He's struggled but it's early. I keep them lower end Tier 2 due to Bill Snyder.
Tier 3.
8. Texas --- They got a pulse with a new QB, but still lost to a mediocre Cal team. Does Strong make it to 2016?
9. Iowa St --- How much longer does Paul Rhodes have? Toledo is a good team this year, but the Cyclones are now 1-2 going into Big 12 play.
10. Kansas --- I really don't know what to say here. Do they go 0-12 or 1-11? At Rutgers & vs Iowa St are next up for them.
