Bids Begin for Border Wall -- 30-Feet Tall

Fair enough.

I'm not anti-increased border security....or even anti-wall (in places it makes sense). I am anti-"Wall" as it is being used by Trump and Trumpies to mean a continuous wall across the entirety of the southern border of the US. There are a good number of areas where better electronic surveillance and beefing up of Border Patrol personnel makes more sense fiscally.

agreed.

plus, I want a one-way door that I can use to sneak out of the US with if it ever gets better there and us gringos need a place to go.

The wall hasn't even been built yet and some already know who didn't pay for it.

I certainly know who hasn't paid for it yet.

I also know that Trump's "plan" for making Mexico pay that he had posted on his election website hasn't come to fruition at all.

I can assure you that, two to three months into the Trump presidency, there's a whole hell of a lot of stuff that hasn't happened yet.

Including Mexico paying for the wall before building starts....which was including in Trump's plan for Mexico paying on his election website.

We all get it though....you're head Trumpie cheerleader. Guns is to Trump as Sys is to Obama.

Yeah... I mean who was it that said way back in January that construction would start in mere months. That guy is an ass hat. Doesn't he know things take time.

The way I understand Trump's rationale is as follows: Congress will by law appropriate the $26 billion or so necessary to build the wall over 4 years or so. That outlay will show up on one side of the massive federal government ledger. Trump surrogates have said that amount of money can come in on another side of the ledger from Mexico via import taxes, etc., etc. Personally, I couldn't care a wit if that is right or wrong. Just build it.

Trump's rationale and plan are linked right above your post.

Cost of border wall is less than cost of services for illegals: report

http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/feb/16/cost-wall-less-cost-services-illegals-report/

If President Trump’s border wall stopped just 10 percent of new illegal immigrants it would pay for itself by saving American taxpayers from spending money on services for those migrants over their lifetimes, according to a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies.

The center, which advocates for a crackdown on immigration, said illegal border crossers are a net drain of nearly $75,000 per person over their lifetimes.

This guy is an idiot...

What % do you think the wall would stop illegals from coming across the southern border? And I agree with you we dont need a wall across 100% of the border BTW.

I have no idea.

Nor do I believe anyone else really does.

JD is just embracing his hall monitor role.

Expressing my opinion just like everyone else.

Not my fault some of you don't think for yourselves, just walk lockstep with the party line and don't like me pointing that out.

You might rethink your approach.

Right. Tell me again about how most illegals come to be in the US.
The southern border had approx 409,000 caught crossing in FY 2016. That number doesn't account for those who evaded detection. Interestingly, it's reported that about 80% of those caught were released into the US instead of being immediately deported.

Different sources have different guestimates on the number that cross and evade detection. Some put the number at around 600,000 per year, others put it at more than a million.

A wall isn't a one stop solution. It is a tool for at least slowing the progress of crossing which can enhance detection opportunities.

I think drones would be as or more effective than a wall, personally.

You know what would work best? Immigration reform.
