I always thought that American press to some degree is free, but I am coming to the conclusion that when it comes to international politics it just tows the govt line.
At present the comparison should be made between Iran and Pakistan. If few hundred people come out on the streets in Iran it is 24 hour news in the American press while over 20000 political prisoners in Pakistan, journalists are being killed or arrested and our imprisoned for months and tortured for months but not a peep from the main stream media or the right wing media.
Simple reason is that a political party is not acceptable to the American govt therefore the generals actually ruling are given a free hand to commit all kinds of human rights violations and the press here has been totally controlled but not a word by the American press. What a shame.

If Pakistan were a hostile nation to America, your atrocities would be amplified. What goes on in Iran is going to be more newsworthy here.

There is definitely something to be said for the fact that we have a smorgasbord of our own issues at home and can’t fix everything everywhere all the time.
