I have taken with a grain of salt Mike Gundy's take that bedlam was gone after OU leaves the big 12. I should have taken it seriously. It seems Shrum, Weinburg/ Gundy are a seamless team here and they all agree: After OU leaves Bedlam must end. Dusty D talked privately with Weinburg about this at Big 12 media days.

The thinking goes something like this for the OSU brass: OSU will be entering a competitive but winnable league once UT/OU leave . OSU should be able to win the league often. They will have a clear path to the playoff, provided they are a one loss conference champion. 10-2 won't get OSU into the playoff. Even in an expanded playoff, their will be pressure for SEC and B!G 9-3 teams to get in over a 10-2 OSU.

SO OSU needs to go undefeated or have just one loss which is very hard to do. After all the Big 12 is a brutal league to go undefeated in. OU with all their success only achieved an undefeated conference record in 2004.

Thus, OSU needs to as often as possible schedule a non conference that is teed up to go 3-0. Bedlam, for obvious reasons, makes this impossible.

One thing could change this is if the Big12 champ gets an automatic bid, but this opportunity may have passed with realignment. The ACC and PAC were given a lifeline this offseason with an automatic bid. They rejected it, and it may never be given out again. The SEC and the B!G will demand no automatic qualifiers next time around.
