Batman v Superman

I have decided that I am not paying money for a ticket to this movie. It is getting universally panned by the critics. In addition, I thought M.O.S. sucked out loud. I might change my mind if a bunch of you guys tell me that it is fantastic. Otherwise, I figure I will watch it on On Demand or HBO, and maybe my expectations will be low so that I will actually find it entertaining.

I'm not a fan of comic-books nor the mountain of movies they've spawned in the last 20 years or so. I don't hate them, I'm just indifferent. My first reaction to the hype for the movie in the OP was, wait a minute, why are the good guys fighting each other? I know Hollywood ran out of original ideas a long time ago, but come on, Superman and Batman are enemies now? wtf?

Man of Steel was such a steaming pile that Batman thought if he could find a way to kill Superman they would not be able to make a sequel.

And it's not a "Hollywood" idea. It's based off the comics. Same goes for civil war with cap v Stark.

IMO, (in general) Marvel movies are simply better written. They know how to add fun and humor to an action flick. MOS wasn't fun or humorous. It was just non stop destruction, which I didn't find all that compelling. It became monotonous pretty quickly.
I don't think there is some kind of bias against DC. Their movies just aren't as good (so far). If I was going to be locked in my house for 6 months with only 5 Blue Ray discs to watch, and I had to choose from only Marvel or DC based movies, I can easily think of more than 5 Marvel movies I would prefer to watch over any of the DC movies.

IMO, Marvel makes better movies, DC make better tv shows (arrow, flash, legends, etc).

On BvS, one of our techs saw it. Thought it was garbage, except for the last 30 minutes. He is typically spot on.

I didn't like Man of Steel that much. I really enjoyed Batman v Superman.

I don't know who these supposed critics were, but they're full of crap.

Very entertaining movie.

Some of the things happening you really have to know your comics, but I'm a nerd and liked it.

BS used the plot device of a slow boil, building to the final hour.

Gale Gado the didn't get as much screen time, but was popular among viewers.

Affleck is the most on target Batman to date. Brilliant strategist and vicious fighter.

Superman in the end displayed his most important historic characteristic, his goodness and desire to sacrifice for the greater good.

My 74 year old Dad went and loved it. He rarely gives a thumbs up to the superhero genre.

As an aside, I can't wait for Captain America Civil War.

At least 73% of the audience that have viewed it disagree with you. I'm sorry, but I take critic reviews with a grain of salt.

In short, they tend to degrade movies to over-compensate for the fact that they really have no worth to society. Yet, they incessantly demonstrate a need to justify their existence and therefore establish a self-worth to anyone that gives them an audience by pretending to be much more intellectual than reality would indicate.

It was slow and almost jumpy... there is a TON of story to throw in before it all goes down.

Even my boy (11) kept asking, why is he (BM) going to fight Superman. After the flick he was, oh I get it now.

The bad reviews stem from too much artsy hate - it can be slow, there is pretty much ZERO back story on anyone, and gnerds still wanna hate on Affleck at the Bat (whereas I thought he was the 2nd best part of the movie next to WW's scenes- HOT; even her Amazonian music was hot).

Some more of the bad reviews are because Superman dies. Anyone who knows anything knows Doomsday killed SM in the comics and this is mirroring that.

Some of the extreme gnerds don't like it because it shows BM using guns (which he never ever ever does, its his thing) and him killing people. Same people that panned MOS for SM killing Zod at the end. And that don't like SM is in a relationship with Lois and so many people actually know who SM is (which is kinda odd).

This was eons better than MOS; I'm sorry even for me that was a crapper and I like everything.

It is polarizing and creates opinion, good and bad. This creates people talking about it which is a win. They can easily shrug off the critics and say, 'Look, the people have spoken' when you see the box office.

Myself, I completely enjoy the Joss Whedon world we live in, where movie concepts can be re-imagined for new and updated storylines. Hell if Disney can retell/re-imagine Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Snow White, why can't DC retell their biggest stories?

I also liked the more hands-on Alfred. Very cool concept.

I saw it and while it was not bad, it was not good either. The Jessie Isenberg kid is a bad actor and was a horrible Lex Luthor. Bruce Wayne/Batman just whines on and on the whole movie. The story line lacks A LOT and that keeps the audience from really being able to buy in to why Batman is wanting to kill Superman. They did a pretty horrible job introducing The Justice League. The only part I enjoyed was the bath tub scene.

Finally saw the movie. It is not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. I think there are two things that really hurt the movie however.

1. They tried to cram entirely too much into one movie in an effort to play catch up with Marvel. I think this was a big mistake and that they could have taken a slower more phased approach and had more success.
2. The casual fan that only knows the superheroes through movie going won't understand some pretty significant events of the movie. I've seen outrage over Batman using guns in the visions Darkseid is giving him and killing people. This is nothing new and Frank Miller's Batman was a brutal SOB. In fact, Snyder was asked about the Miller scene in the graphic novel where Batman shoots a guy in a forehead. Snyder said no way he is going there. Another is the Flash cameo. It was short but it was also crucial IMO because I believe it shifted their reality from the injustice timeline (which is the line I believe this was on) to a different timeline or at least gave Bruce the knowledge not to let Lois die in the future. It also put Batman on a quest to find the other league members earlier due to the Flash going to far back in time to warn him about not letting Lois die.

Most comics always had a sense of campy in them and DC is trying way too hard to make serious movies while Marvel has Stark cracking jokes and Cap shooshing team members by saying, "Language!" On their coms.

Also Marvel is giving way more nods and eggs and quick snippets to satisfy the hard core comic geeks.

They are currently in a three week reshoot for certain scenes of Suicide Squad. I read it was to add in some more humor. I hope this is a sign of DC realizing the no humor policy is a mistake.

Marvel's thing is more so using the Disney formula.

More often than not it works. Look how they apply it to their sports movies: Miracle, Secretariat, and the one they did on the 66 Texas Western hoops team.

Nice little popcorn flicks, but nothing major. Very safe.

Warner Bros is taking a risk with the heavier tone. They've tried the campier tone with movies like Batman and Robin and Green Lantern (and GL felt a lot like a Marvel movie to me). They didn't do as well as expected.

The darker and more adult tone proved to be commercially and critically successful in the Dark Knight trilogy. Man of Steel and BvS have proven to be commercially successful. They see no reason to change.
