The Cowboys are off to a solid start, ranked #12 with a 14-3 Record. Losses are to the #6 & #7 Ranked Teams (Vandy & Arkansas) in the first weekend, plus a loss in a 3-Game Series to a legitimate Tournament Team (LMU).

A tough matchup awaits this evening against DBU, a perpetual Tournament Team, and gives Ben Abram another opportunity to prove his worth. Then the Pokes hit the road for a challenging Big 12 opening round series against #22 Taco Tech.

The biggest question at this point is Pitching, beginning with Starting Pitching.

Offensively & Defensively, the Pokes are loaded with a legit 2-Deep at each Position, including options for LH & RH sticks across the board. Several key role players have emerged, which has been helpful with a handful of injuries (Ehrhard, Meola, Brown - it looks like Meola & Brown are back).

It looks like this Team has 4 legit Pros on the Roster: McLean, Watts-Brown, Riggio, and Freshmen phenom Nolan Schubart (more in a minute).

Those 4 are followed closely by Ehrhard, Brown, Mendham, and potentially Benge and Meola. Freshman Sylvester appears to have all of the tools.

There was a discussion in one of the game threads about a Pro-Comp for Nolan Schubart, as well and OSU Comp.

As for the Pro-Comp, @Cypresspoke pointed out Kyle Tucker.

As for an OSU Comp, here is a proposal, going back and forth between 2 former Cowboys...

A big, lefthand hitting OF who hits for average & power. It seems to need to be a Pro, as Schubart clearly is...which narrows down the 2 in mind.

He is not an exact replica; however, the most obvious choice seems to be Jeromy Burnitz...at least in terms of production. Stylistically, he seems to be a bigger Sean Hugo. Burnitz wins the comp for reaching the highest level.

Thoughts? What did I miss?

Further, is Ehrhard a young Doug Dascenzo?

Pitching Wise, it seems like a safe bet the Rotation the 1st Weekend:

Fri (SP1): Watts-Brown
Sat (SP2): Benge
Sun (SP3): Hendry

SP2 & SP3 need to definitively claim their Spots. Abram could insert himself, as well as Bogusz. Unfortunately, no one else has jumped up and made a statement.

Isaac Stebens ("The Wolf") has nailed down the long-relief role, and Nolan McLean is back as the Closer. It would seem ideal to have both McLean and even Benge out of the Bullpen...lack of development to this point has kept Benge as a Rotation guy.

Root, Blake, O'Toole, and to a lesser extent Hogue have shown some flashes.
