Anything wrong in Iowa?

A buddy of mine texted saying two Iowa recruits de-committed. Is this fallout from Ranos going to UNC, other troubles in Hawkeyeland, or totally unrelated?

Probably unrelated. Renteria and Mejia both committed early, before they could discuss money with the coaches. Since then, Lee and Teasdale committed. It seems likely that the offers Iowa was able to make didn't live up to what these two were hoping for (and could get elsewhere). I imagine we'll see more of that if early commits become more common.

This is really a pretty high class problem for Iowa. It is like if we would have received a commitment from Teasdale and then Fix were to come to OSU there would be no money for Teasdale.

I really thought my comments would draw a conversation comparing Fix to Teasdale. I know Teasdale is tough and worthy of a full scholarship, but if you have a good chance to get Daton Fix, that is where our money should go.

I agree. Teasdale is tough as nails and a solid pickup for Iowa but Fix is on another level at this current time. Teasdale is younger and I'd imagine he'll be on or near that same level by this time his senior year. I guess you just look and decide who has the most room to improve and become the more quality collegiate wrestler. I don't know who would at this point to be honest. I could easily see both winning a couple nationals titles in there future

For the sake of argument, let's say that they are relative equals. In that case, you take the first guy in the room. Teasdale won't be on a college mat for another 3 years. Yes, Iowa has a commitment from Teasdale, which is more than anyone else can say, but three years is a loong time. Fix is next year and can be fit into a known lineup in 15 months. Most of the team Teasdale will be wrestling with hasn't even been recruited yet. Too many ifs to think about.

For the record, I'd take Fix over Teasdale talent-wise today. By the time Teasdale gets to his senior year, he may be as good or better, but no one knows.

I had no idea that Teasdale was that young. Fix is already there, but Teasdale looked competitive against the Junior group, just not dominant.

I should have been more specific. Teasdale will be a junior next year, while Fix is a senior. I believe they may be the same age though. I was thinking of when Teasdale committed, he was a soph. Anyway, still think Fix is slightly more polished.

I think Teasdale might be older than or close to same age as both Lee and fix, but he is a grade below.
