Needing to buy a truck, and I just can't get into it. I've looked at for sale by owners, etc....lots of stuff on line, a few dealerships, but I just hate the process anymore as I grow older of going to a dealership. Since I can't afford new $50,000 trucks, I'm looking used....Ford, Chevy.

I saw something I liked at David Stanley which is a dealership I can't stand as they lie on their ads worse than anyone. I almost had to punch the guy to get away from him. Anybody have a place they liked.

Virtually all of them are going to run you thru the gauntlet if you go in without a negotiated price.

The dealership you mention is the most fined among all dealerships in the state (by a large margin). I would personally stay away from them.

Secure your own financing and negotiate your price over the internet. Don't come in until you get the numbers you want. If you don't like what you're hearing or don't want to talk to them anymore, tell them to take you off of their call list (they have to do that).

If you have a pretty good idea what you want and there are a couple of dealerships that have what you want, get them in a bidding war against each other. You'll likely get yourself a good deal for yourself without getting into the onsite haggle.

No help to the OP, but the last new car I bought I used the "True Car" service offered through my bank/insurance company. I used the Reynolds dealer down in Norman. Pretty chill process, although I'm sure a car buying enthusiast could have haggled a little more off the price.

Unless it's on your route, I guess Guthrie would be out of the way, but not too bad. We like Vance Motors at the first exit. Bought the GMC and the Buick there. They also sell Fords and Dodges in separate buildings.

They have a branch in Perry, but I'm not a fan of their service people there. Guthrie is a bit of drive for service, but I can always find and excuse to drive on into Edmond for shopping or something.

No one hates buying a car more than me. Beck and I both used to work for a couple of outfits in the Metroplex and were on the lot of a dozen or so dealerships every week. I have no respect for any of those places. Some good people work there but "company policy" is to screw every customer to the max -- and then laugh and brag about it.

I was entering this thread to say Vance. I ended up buying my truck from Bob Howard (who I also would recommend) because they had what I wanted at the right price, but the Vance folks were very straight up and honest. If you would be interested in a Ram, I'd also recommend Johnson's of kingfisher.

But I agree with the internet research post above. Be prepared and don't walk into a dealership until you have a good starting point.

Thanks. I have looked at Vance and heard some decent things and Guthrie isn't far for me at all. Closer than Norman.

Pokewithnoname with some good info for sure.

cars.com....find a individual seller. I always use the 500 mile range as I'd drive that far for the right "deal".
Some of these car dealers may get a little more aggressive towards the end of the month. Bob Moore has been good in the past...maybe not the best price, an unknown actually, but less hassle. Heard good things about Knippelmier, won't ever use Bob Howard.

I've brought several used cars and trucks at the Dealers auto auction. One of my friends has a note lot so he gets me in. We go together and test drive the autos that meet my requirements. They have a small track out on the site. I pay him $500 over the cost of the car. I set my top $ off of wholesale blue book.
Most dealers will move inventory between 60-90 days if something doesn't sell. I bought a Denali that was on Howard's lot at the auction for 5k less than Howard's internet price.
Viewing is Monday- Wednesday and auction is Thursday. Let me know if you want to check it out.

I love the car buying process, but dealers don't love me back. :)

My wife (and ex) were both shocked how much we got off of our cars and house.

Everyone tries to dick me over on the cost of what I do. I feel no remorse.

This message is intended for a little encouragement to get that car buying spirit back, cactus. Be ruthless. It's not your fault they make it a game.

I bought a truck at Bob Moore ford in 2011. Easy deal. Sometimes it is easier to get them to throw in a bedliner and window tinting than getting that last $500 out of them.

i know a great dealer in chickasha. jim allen at charles allen ford. tell him his brother told you to call 4052242000.

Southern is also a friend of them as well, and told me to go there.....you are more than a friend obviously. I guess this may b a sign. :)

Charles Allen has some nice looking trucks. I like the dark green and dark tan combo. Also they have a gunmetal grey with black and red cloth. Your kids would like that one. They have just a few used ones that I can remember.

I may very well buy new now, but stay around $30,000 so it won't be fancy. I'll check the web and give him a holler Monday.

The only problem I have with Charles Allen Ford is their new selection is almost exclusively $50,000 trucks. A few in the mid 30's. Whereas Bob Moore ford on 89th has a bunch of new trucks under my 30 thousand mark, and I need to get this done in the next week. Just don't know if Allen can do that.

Not Diffee or Westpoint Dodge.

Have had nice dealings with Joe Cooper and Frontier in El Reno.

I did get a deal at Joe cooper on a ford pickup when they were in Midwest city couple years ago. Probably the best value on a new vehicle I've gotten.

Call Ron Shirley II, RS 2, at Wilson's in Stillwater. Great guy and I've had nothing but good experiences with RS 2 very straight shooter. They have a nice inventory of used trucks.

It worked out really weird, but since I decided to go new I went back to Reynolds. There's a long story but it seemed to be fate. My msrp was $40,658 or something. After all the discounts I could muster, I paid $29,034. Plus they are putting in a spray in bed liner tomorrow. I feel good about the deal.

I feel I went in more prepared thanks to this thread. Appreciate it. That's over for a few more years I hope!

Was that difference all in discounts, or did you haggle down to that number? I've always been surprised by how far below msrp that trucks sell for. Maybe they start them really high, since it's such a popular market?

that's about as good as you could do....that's almost 30%.

Jack,
can you give the rundown of what discounts they applied? My dad is starting to look around.

Truck is back getting the bed liner. All the info is in there I think. It was a lot of discounts that they were running....plus a couple on the options I had on the truck....got it down to where he couldn't move anymore he said, then I reminded him I drove up in a Flex I bought there 6 years ago. That was another $1,000 owner loyalty.

I'm certainly not a good hard ass negotiator. Plus, I needed this truck by this weekend really. It was the end of the month and they wanted to move this truck. I'm sure they made money. I felt good about it, and thats what matters, although I still feel like i probably got screwed, but thats a normal feeling after spending big sums of money for me every time.

I'll try and remember to get that out and list the discounts.

I agree with all of the above. The Service Manager at Diffee was pretty blatant in ripping off my 80 year old mother in some repairs on her car. Granted it's the service department, but need I say more?

While browsing through the lot at West Pointe in Yukon, I ran into the blond headed guy that used to do all of the TV commercials for Big Red Sports and Imports (very obnoxious and huge OU homer). I would think that would be enough reason to avoid that place.

I bought a truck at Joe Cooper Ford in Yukon and felt like I got a pretty good bargain. The service guys there have cut me some pretty good deals on service/repairs that they weren't obligated to do.
