A thought experiment...

It's already been good theater. Are you not entertained?
Not until Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross challenge Hillary to a cage and ladder match with Obama serving ice cream like the Presidential Pussy he is.

"The President’s supporters insist vehemently that, having won the 1984 election, he has every right to try to change the Court’s direction. Yes, but the Democrats won the 1986 election, regaining control of the Senate, and they have every right to resist. This is not the same Senate that confirmed William Rehnquist as Chief Justice and Antonin Scalia as an associate justice last year."

Opposing a nominee based on ideology is one thing. Stating that NO nominee will be considered is another. Mitch is getting his ass handed to him right now by pundits and scholars across the spectrum. He will back down from that.

Bork was easy to oppose based on nothing more than his record of service in the Nixon administration. If Obama nominates someone equally as vulnerable then he gives McConnell and Grassley an incredible gift. I suspect Obama is smarter than that.

I think what you mean is that the Democrats are better at pretending to oppose a nominee on principle. No question about it, they are. They're more practiced at it.

Again Bork was nominated 8-9 months relative to the cycle prior to whomever Obama plans on nominating. Incidentally, it isn't hard to hand Mitch McConnell his ass rhetorically. If he caves and Obama gets a justice appointed, the Republicans will get slaughtered in the Senate races come November.

Also, incidentally, McConnell was wrong, or misspoke, when he suggested that Obama shouldn't nominate anyone to replace Scalia. The President has every right to nominate whomever he pleases. The Senate has every right to NOT consent to that nomination. It is certainly within the bounds of the Constitution to do so without even considering the nomination.

The Democrats have brought this all on themselves vis-a-vis Bork and Miquel Estrada, et al and what they attempted to do to Clarence Thomas.

Then there is this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...31c988-320f-11e5-8353-1215475949f4_story.html

In July 2015 CNN Poll -

37% said the USSC is too liberal
20% said the USSC is too conservative
40% said the USSC is "about right"

Marshal, I agree with you about McConnell, was so freakin stupid to perform the knee jerk once more and say they wouldn't even vote on a nominee. Instead they could have disarmed The Rodent in Chief by saying something like "even though the moron president saw fit to try and filibuster a previous Supreme Court nominee," "we look forward to going through this proses and voting on a nominee." That whole group couldn't outmaneuver a corpse.
No matter what, they are going to be called sexist, racists, homophobs, xenophobes etc etc. just play along and TACTFULLY delay the process. Just like president puss-n-boots if you draw a red line, you have zero room to move if the dynamics change.
So depressing to watch these guys stumble through event after event without ascertaing or anticipating the opponents move.
Any lib who doesn't think democrats/libs/socialist would do the same thing if a republican was in office, is a lying, hypocritical scumbag and has no business talking to adults.
