The problem is that Alaska doesn't have a 'normal' primary system. They do "ranked choice" voting, and so Murkowski gets elected by the Dems and the low information voters who simply see her as the "incumbent" Republican. What would be interesting is to see her get evicted from the GOP caucus so she can't run as a "Republican".
