I know that OSU is unlikely to be involved, but there’s a chance this year’s coaching carousel could impact the Big 12, and there are a few other interesting names worth following.
First, West Virginia fans are concerned about Iowa potentially opening up and there being mutual interest between them and DeVries. Apparently the University of Iowa is located roughly an hour away from Drake, so if he liked where he lived prior to Morgantown better than he likes living in Morgantown (or if his family did) he may take that job.
Next, Will Wade, who a lot of us wanted at OSU last year, is looking more and more like he’ll be the next coach at NC State. There were early rumblings that had him ending up at Texas, but that’s looking less likely now.
As for Texas, should they have an opening, Underwood’s name has come up there, but the craziest name being thrown around is Bill Self. Obviously, I don’t see this one happening, but the only reason I’m not immediately writing it off as total nonsense is because Texas arguably just made an equally unprecedented hire in baseball. 🤣
Other than that, Ben McCollum‘s name has been mentioned at Indiana. Going from DII to the head coach at Indiana in less than a year would be a wild story!
