My view on Education and the cancellation of student loan debt or the theory of a free College Education

My previous CEO that recently retired was a die-hard liberal. He was a professor at Colorado State University for a number of years, he would go back to CSU at least twice a year as a guest lecturer and has many friends at CSU.

We were debating "free" college education or the cancellation of student loans, he said it would help minorities and a great idea.

I asked him, I said what do you have to be the very first day you set foot on a college campus? I said this is not a trick question, and you know the answer but may not come to mind. We sat in awkward silence for awhile. I said it is simple: You have to be college ready, you have to have the needed education when you set foot on campus to be able to pursue a meaningful degree and graduate. He agreed, and said so?

I said the problem is, for many minorities, they come out of high schools that will never have them college ready. All the Dems are doing is getting minorities to believe they will get a free college education, until reality hits that you have to be college ready and meet minimum standards.

This practice, I told him, would actually make the education gap wider, not smaller for minorities. Those that would most likely benefit the most would be lower middle class families that have children in good high schools but perhaps choose or prefer to not go in to debt for a college education.

I told him all that money would be better spent figuring out the education problem at the lower levels, and getting minorities the education they need to be able to tackle a college curriculum. Part of the money I said should be used to create these community centers near low income neighborhoods and schools as well. Told him this was just a way to buy votes.

He said I really need to think about this and when I go back to CSU I am going to discuss this with professors and school administrators I know. After one of his visits to CSU, he said all the professors and school admin agreed with my logic, that they had never looked at it that way. He said not one single person disagreed. I wish we could have more conversations like this and not so much tribalism.

There is something else I believe, people don't value things that are given to them or come easy. Having a good education is a gift and not a right, and it is something one should take great pride in achieving.

To me this is simple common sense. It is tragic what Biden has done making people with no college education or student loan, carry the burden of paying taxes to pay for a stranger's college education, many of these people living pay check to pay check and being suffocated by Biden induced inflation. I have read many minorities are upset that these are the people Biden is concerned about when they just want lower food and gas prices, and he does nothing but fan the flames of inflation.

Lawmakers Lash Out At Biden Admin For Refusing To Approve Pay Raise For Enlisted Troops

Biden would rather spend hundreds of billions of dollars on illegals, foreign wars, Student loan forgiveness and all kinds of other American last programs than spend 24 billion dollars over 5 years to provide our enlisted military members enough to avoid being forced to rely on poverty programs. SMFH. The priorates of this corrupt low life POS are beyond fvcked up.

The West Is Sick of the New Woke Jihadism

The Progressive psychosis is obvious when you look at their activities over time, when you look at how they simply move on to the next rant, the next demand for government intervention (and jobs). Discussing the plight of the Kurds or Tibetians or Yuigers or Armenians just isn't Amygdala Hijacking enough down at the coffee shop.

What are the mobs in Washington defiling iconic federal statues with impunity and pelting policemen really protesting?
What are the throngs in London brazenly swarming parks and rampaging in the streets really angry about?

Occupations?
They could care less that the Islamist Turkish government still stations 40,000 troops in occupied Cyprus. No one is protesting against the Chinese takeover of a once-independent Tibet or the threatened absorption of an autonomous Taiwan.
Refugees?
None of these mobs are agitating on behalf of the nearly 1 million Jews ethnically cleansed since 1947 from the major capitals of the Middle East. Some 200,000 Cypriots displaced by Turks earn not a murmur. Nor does the ethnic cleansing of 99% of Nagorno-Karabakh's ancient Armenian population just last year.

Civilian casualties?

The global protestors are not furious over the 1 million Uighurs brutalized by the communist Chinese government. Neither are they concerned about the Turkish government's indiscriminate war against the Kurds or its serial threats to attack Armenians and Greeks.

Quick Montana Weather Update (NS)

Sometime back, several asked when is the latest snow you've seen in Montana in a thread.

I mentioned being snowed on in Yellowstone in late June. Here is an example of what is forecast for early next week along the Rocky Mountain front in western Montana including Glacier National Park. There are advisories like this one from West Yellowstone to the Canadian border. Thought you might like to know this if planning an early summer visit in the future.

The Left's Missing Survival Instincts

By M. Walter

On nearly every major issue, progressives are hurtling towards extinction.

Abortion, LGBT, guns, crime, open borders, even religion; all the things they relentlessly, senselessly agitate about, if extrapolated out to their inexorable ends, would result in the actual physical extinction of their population. Whatever neural highway connects the “actions” part of the human brain to the “consequences” part appears in them to be not merely broken, but never constructed in the first place.

Worse, we are now several generations deep into progressive parenting: too many people with too many decades of indoctrination on what to think rather than how to think -- and there are millions of them: people who, since birth, have had every adult around them hovering, helicoptering, and insulating them from even the most benign challenge, depriving them of the essential, evolutionary sting of a bad choice.

Now they are grown and thickly among us in all our public and private institutions, incapable of regulating their emotions to process even the smallest deviation from their Truth; their never-jostled internal compass they are certain points them morally and intellectually to true north. We, the unindoctrinated, are left scrambling for purchase, for even the simplest agreed upon objective truth (“What is a woman?”).

The rules for informed American citizenship used to be full sunlight and reasoned debate with objective truth -- or, at the very least, an agreed-upon set of facts -- emerging from civilized rough and tumble. (Think William F. Buckley or Milton Friedman debating liberals, who used to know how to comport themselves.)

The rules now seem to be: whoever is the wokest or loudest wins. They don’t even have to prove their case on the merits. They just have to silence the opposition. Their opponent’s acquiescence is all that’s required.

ABORTION

It goes without saying that the surest way to kill off a population is for that population to stop having babies. But in this case, it’s not just the killing off of one’s own, it’s the proud killing of one’s own. “Safe, legal, and rare” has devolved into “Shout Your Abortion.” Abortion up until the moment before birth is allowed in only a handful of countries, China, North Korea and the United States chief among them. Bills have been put forth to outlaw the practice, but to our everlasting shame, they have failed -- with Republican help. Looking at you, senators Collins and Murkowski.

LGBT, etc.

Again, self-explanatory: if everyone was gay, nobody would get born and the population would die off. It’s not just the unproductive nature of homosexuality, it’s the absolutist “pride” of it. Once again, that slippery slope got awful slippery awfully fast. Since the Clinton era of “don’t ask, don’t tell” it has switched gears from passive acceptance to active, taxpayer-funded endorsement. Now America’s military will pay for your gender reassignment surgery and take time away from life-saving readiness training to instruct uniformed personnel on the proper use of pronouns.

Also: it used to be just adults. Now it’s kids -- and they’re getting younger. In 2005, the “youngest ever” sex reassignment surgery was performed on a 12-year-old boy, transitioning the child from “Tim” to “Kim.” Now? Toddlers -- barely more than babies -- are being mutilated at their parents’ request, and the families are taking their star turns on NPR with warm and glowing profiles about the normalcy of it all.

In a different America, in a more rational time, this type of intervention would have rightly been called Munchausen-by-Proxy.

GUNS

No matter what progressives tell you about the 2nd Amendment, the truth is that they want it repealed. When you ask what will happen to America’s guns (there is at least one gun for every man, woman, and child in our 330 million+ population), they really seem to think they’ll all just vanish, magically.

The "common sense” part of “common sense gun legislation” went flying out the window when, incredibly, they upped the ante from disarming American citizens to disarming America’s police.

These Democrats trust Iran with the means to make nuclear bombs more than they trust their fellow Americans with a Glock.

These are not serious people by any standard, and as much as practical, should be ignored. Where they cannot be ignored, they must be stopped.

CRIME

New York City has been a gusher of headlines since their “no-cash bail” law went into effect.

“[Then Governor] Cuomo estimate[d] the new law will keep about 90% of defendants out of jail at least until their case gets resolved. These offenders will also have the added bonus of a new incentive program in New York City -- which will give released suspects things like New York Mets tickets and gift cards for showing up to court.”
Rob a bodega, go to a Mets game! Make it Yankees’ tickets and you could probably eliminate crime in Gotham altogether!

San Francisco got in on the crazy-on-crime game too. The City by the Bay decided the first $950 of theft was free -- but you gotta do it during business hours. Which is nice! No more late nights.

Extrapolated out to its inevitable ends and there won’t just be “food deserts” but everything deserts. Who in their right mind would open a business in that environment? Without business there are no jobs. Where there are no jobs there is destitution and misery and the hollowed-out shells of once great cities. See Detroit, where you can buy a home for $1. Detroit hasn’t had a Republican mayor in over sixty years, since 1962.

Does A Delaware Jury Acquit Hunter?

First let me say I think this case is kind of petty considering everything else he and his family look to have been involved in but the law is the law. With the overwhelming evidence against Hunter it should be a easy guilty verdict but when it comes to Democrats being held accountable for their law breaking it doesn't ever seem to happen.

CWS starts tomorrow. Who’s your pick to win it all?

I’m kinda leaning towards Florida State.

They have a great ace pitcher in Jamie Arnold who has been their horse. He’s 11-3 with over 100 innings pitched and has 155 Ks to just 26 walks. His WHIP is near 1.00, which is fantastic for 100 IP. His an ERA of 2.77 and hitters are batting just .217 off of him. They have four other guys who have made at least 7 starts and five guys have at least five wins. They’re No. 2 starter is 7-4, they have two pitchers are 5-0, and two others are 5-1, i.e. they have lots of arms.

They have a great hitter in James Tibbs III, who may be the best hitter OSU fans might have never heard of before. He’s hitting .374 with 28 homers and 94 RBI. His OBS% is a whopping 1.30 and he’s only struck out 31 times in well over 200 ABs. He’s walked 52 times and has even stolen 7 bases.

But’s not even FSU’s leading hitter. That would be Cam Smith, who’s batting .402 and leads the team in hits, doubles, runs scored, and ABs, and is third on the team in home runs with 16. But they still have a very balanced lineup with 7 of their 9 regulars batting .297 or better and five guys with double digit dingers. The Seminoles are averaging about 9 runs a game.

As far as how they’ve done against other teams in the CWS (of course, three other ACC teams are in the CWS and the also played Florida three times), They didn’t play North Carolina, NC State, or Virginia during the regular season, although the did beat Virginia in the ACC tournament. Interestingly, they got swept by Clemson, who of course lost in the supers to Florida. They swept three single games from their rival Florida.
