High School/Oklahoma State Recruiting Wrap-Up Starts with Quarterback Out West

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterbacks coach Tim Rattay traveled the farthest this weekend as the Cowboys staff used the open or bye weekend to hit the recruiting trail and Rattay was rewarded for taking the long flight out to Northern California to see 2024 quarterback Maealiuaki Smith. The quarterback, who has yet to announce publicly, but has shown high interest in the Pokes had his best game of the season so far for the CIF top-ranked team in Northern California. Junipero Serra is 5-0 overall and 2-0 in district after beating rival St. Francis 45-17.

Smith finished 19-of-26 for 321-yards, two touchdowns passing, and two rushing.
Saturday afternoon in the home game, Maealiuaki Smith scored on two quarterback sneaks, one for the first score and then completed 19-of-26 passing for 321-yards and a pair of scoring tosses including a 70-yard touchdown pass to standout tight end Cole Harrison. Serra head coach Patrick Walsh has put together a dynamo with the Padres and he recently took a quick trip to Oklahoma to meet with the OSU staff and check out where his current star quarterbaack will apparently continue his football career.
Rattay, who has recruited Smith along with Oklahoma State staffers Eddie Simpkins and Beni Tonga, of course, along with offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn and head coach Mike Gundy has forged a strong relationship with Smith. Smith and his family made their official visit to Oklahoma State back in late June.
Harrison, by the way, is 6-5, 220-pounds and has offers from the likes of Houston, San Jose State, and UNLV.
Offensive line coach Charley Dickey traveled west as well to Salt Lake and he saw West High School with big offensive line offers Semisi Tonga (6-4, 325) and Nuku Mafi (6-5, 300) beat Highland 36-15. The score is a big misleading as West led 36-0 after three quarters and Highland scored all 15 of their points in the fourth quarter.

Nuku Mafi (68) is playing both ways.
Tonga and Mafi both traveled to Stillwater in the spring and will make their official visit to Oklahoma State together on the weekend of the Kansas game at OSU on Oct. 14. Both players recently cancelled their scheduled visit to Nebraska this past weekend.
Mafi, who also plays defense had a tackle against Highland, and the two linemen while playing on offense blocked for quarterback Isaiah Su’esu’u as he completed 14-of-22 passes for 281-yards and two touchdowns. On the ground West had 204-yards rushing and two touchdowns on 29 attempts. That’’s 7.03-yards per carry.
Cowboys defensive passing game coordinator and corners coach Tim Duffie was in Waco and un in Dallas-Fort Worth. He was in Waco on Friday to see highly-regarded cornerback prospect Kobe Black.

Kobe Black has been a regular at Oklahoma State home games.
Black is one of the top-ranked players in the nation, and obviously in Texas. Black had three tackles on defense and a reception and five carries for 24-yards playing exclusively in the second half for the Connally Cadets. They dropped a close one to Springtown 22-19. Now, Waco Connally after going 3-3 playing a non district schedule loaded with ranked teams, will start district play in their final four games. That starts Friday at home with Gatesville.
The Cowboys seem to have a strong relationship with Black and a real recruiting opportunity for the blue chip prospect as he could play alongside his brother, something both of them would like to do.

We don’t know where all the Oklahoma State coaches were but they were on the road and many in Texas. Defensive line coach Greg Richmond started in Houston where he visited Deer Park High School, who had a bye to check up on big defensive end Luke Webb. Webb is having a huge season so far for a stout Deer Park team.
Richmond then went up to the DFW to catch defensive lineman Armstrong Nnodim (6-4, 260) of Mesquite Horn, one of the most disruptive defensive players in Texas. Nnodim and Horn had unbeaten Rockwall, who scored with 12 seconds left to beat Horn 35-31. Nnodim was in on helpping force Rockwall into three turnovers, something the Yellow Jackets had not done this season.
Many of the Cowboys committed players in the 2024 class and offers in the 2025 recruiting cycle had the weekend off, but not McKinney linebacker Jonathan Agumadu. The Lions beat Braswell 35-14 and stayed unbeaten at 6-0/3-0. The Lions defense and Agumadu held Braswell to 304 total-yards of offense.

Devon Jordan of Union had a 100-yard plus interception return for a touchdown.
Closer to home in Oklahoma, we were at Yukon on Friday night and saw Union destroy the Millers 63-to-7. A big part of that was 2025 Oklahoma State quarterback offer and top prospect Shake Reisig. Reisig has an elite arm and was 29-of-33 for 412-yards and four touchdowns in the game.
In the same game, Oklahoma State 2024 corner offer Devon Jordan had the crowd buzzing when he picked off a Yukon pass in his own end zone and then took it to the house for a 100-yard plus return for touchdown. Jordan has Oklahoma State among his finalists after visiting TCU this weekend.
Bad news, but it appears not too bad, came from McAlester where Oklahoma State commit and Del City standout running back Rodney Fields left aftet the third play of the game with a shoulder injury. Del City (4-0/2-0) won the game 35-21 and Eagles head coach Robert Jones told The Oklahoman that it did not appear to be serious and that Fields may sit one week.
Oklahoma State has a crosstown pledge in the 2024 class in Stillwater’s Josh Ford. The 6-6, 255-pound Ford had one reception in the blowout win over Tulsa Booker T. Washington 48-13. Ford also played on defense at both end and middle linebacker. Our plans are to catch up with Ford this week when Stillwater hosts Sand Springs on Thursday night.
