It was a gut shot. The sheer level of panic and meltdown cannot just be attributed to losing to OSU. Yes, it's a rivalry and yes, they hate losing to us more than Texas. However, the current DEFCON 1 mental state in Norman goes deeper than Saturday. They are now realizing that nobody in the Big 12 is scared of uo football anymore. In the past couple of years, they've lost to literally every B12 team ... OSU (2 of last 3), ISU, KSU, KU, TCU, Tech, Baylor, WVU, not to mention that big Texas loss. All the while, they are in their longest national championship drought (coming up on a quarter century) since before the 1950's.

The fact that their overall talent level and depth is nowhere near where it was just a few years ago has them fearful of what's about to hit them with their move to the SEC. The lashing out at OSU fans this week isn't about a non-call in the end zone, it's about the potential fall of their program to mid-sec status. All the big talk about leaving the B12 behind is bluster. They could end up being a mid-level SEC team when they would much rather be a top B12 team with an easier path to the playoffs. And, if OSU manages to nab the B12 playoff spot before uo is able to snag one of the SEC spots, the absolute come-apart by uo fans will be glorious. Buckle up and play the long game. I like our chances.
