Had the Impossible Burger at the Garage the other night. F*cking disgusting.

Anyone else tried it?

When they put the plate in front of me I thought, wtf is that smell. Took one bite and choked it down (twss). Awful. Couldn’t leave it sitting on the table because of the smell.
 
I have a daughter that tries to eat plant based as much as possible. She isn’t militant about it and will eat fish and meat occasionally. She said the impossible whopper was disgusting.

It’s an interesting trend and it’s growing at a rapid pace. The big boys are heavily investing in it. Beyond, Impossible and the like won’t be able to compete soon because none of them have manufacturing, they just had the tech. Right now it costs more to produce a pea protein burger than a beef burger.

I completely agree that it tastes like garbage, although I had some faux shrimp that was made with plant protein and it was much closer to shrimp than the beyond is to beef. Tyson just made an investment in the shrimp company like they did with Beyond and Memphis Meats and a couple others early on.

Alternative protein is really having an effect on the soy protein market as well. Prices up and supply are going down. Companies are making more money producing pea protein for these plant based items.
 
I had from Hopdoddy and really enjoyed it. Honestly couldn’t tell the difference and it didn’t give me the indigestion that regular beef gives me. That said, the research I’ve done is that it’s not any better for you. All the money going into it makes me nervous for some reason.
 
Honestly I'm not even sure the regular whopper has beef in it at this point. Either my standards have increased over the years or the quality of beef at Burger Kings, Wendy's and McDonalds has decreased across the board in the past decade. With the exception of an occasional Whataburger I've stop eating fast food hamburgers. I'm way too old to have any interest in fake beef.

Tyson released 4th quarter earnings today and this is the opening of the statement.


“Tyson Foods Inc. says plant-based nuggets from its Beyond Meat Inc. competitor Raised & Rooted are now in 7,000 stores, almost double the number of stores since the company’s last earnings, with an expanded presence at food-service companies.

In August, after the food company’s previous earnings report, it said it would have Raised & Rooted in 4,000 stores by the end of September.

In addition, blended Raised & Rooted burgers, made with a mix of Angus beef and plant protein, began shipping this month.

“Alternative protein projections remain strong, and we’re well-positioned to lead in this growing space,” said Chief Executive Noel White on the earnings call, according to a FactSet transcript.

Analysts have raised the possibility that Beyond Meat (BYND) the current leader in plant-based meat, could be overtaken by Tyson (TSN) and other large food companies that have been increasingly making a push in meat alternatives.”
