There still seems to be a lot of people who are regurgitating the ou/mixon talking points about how that big, bad deplorable female was just thrashing poor little Joe Mixon when he finally had no choice but to punch her. I hate to say it, but many here are actually offering defenses of the guy, which do not in any way mash with the facts as reported by the chief investigator who reviewed the videotape and interviewed a number of witnesses.
1. He started the entire chain of ensuing events, by first insulting one of the people in her group with a homosexual slur! (How is it wrong to use a ethnic/racist slur against someone, because it creates a negative learning experience, but its okey-dokey to use an offensive homosexual slur under similar circumstances and context?) Double standard anyone?
2. The "slap" came in response to him lunging towards her with his fist cocked and held by his side and her responding in an instinctive manner.
You don't get penalized as on O-Lineman if the D-Lineman jumps across before the ball is snapped and you instinctively respond in kind. In other words, she committed NO crime in slapping him, if it was in response to his "assault" and that's what it was. Assault legal definition: Intentionally putting another person in reasonable apprehension of an imminent harmful or offensive contact. No intent to cause physical injury needs to exist, and no physical injury needs to result.
